Title: Hi from life free or die!
Post by: badenglishihave on Mon, 19 January 2015, 13:39:49
Back in December I was looking for items to add to my Amazon wishlist and I stumbled upon mechanical keyboards. But since as I did not get any for Christmas I have now purchased 2 (Corsair K70 mx brown, Ducky Shine 3 mx brown), looking to get 1 more (KUL ES-87 mx clear). I think I am officially addicted.

Like a lot of people here I was born in the 80's and I vaguely remember using big, heavy mechanical keyboards growing up on the family IBM 386. I didn't pay much attention to them then while playing Monkey Island, Wolf3D and programming in BASIC but looking back those must have been the best days of my life  :D . Maybe I can scrounge up one of those old keyboards if my dad hasn't thrown them all away...

Anyways I'm from New Hampshire, USA, and this is about the most exciting thing to do during the winter so it was great to stumble upon this community.

You mean those big ugly bulky IBM keyboards that make a racket when you type on them?  The ones you just totally ignored because they were not "cool"? The ones that weighed like 5 or more pounds and you had to use it because your other keyboard stopped working for some reason?  Those?

Welcome to Geekhack

Yeah those big, heavy mechanical keyboards; are still my favorite for typing, they really have the nicest feel. Gaming however is a whole other story.
The only reason to not use an IBM Model M for typing is if, you don't have too much room on your desk, or the people around you can't handle the noise it make (yet still so satisfying)

Welcome to GH!

you should check with your parents/grandparents if they have the old computer gear laying around by chance, you could stumble upon something!

Welcome to Geekhack!

A nice collection of keyboard you have started - the clears should be a nice complement to the browns.
