Title: Has anyone here had to deal with steam support?
Post by: hking0036 on Sat, 24 January 2015, 21:31:04
I have to ask because my account got locked on the 13th (see attachment) and based on what I've seen it looks like a month or so on average to get a response. It sucks being falsely accused of something like this. Also let's call this a steam sharing thread or something I dunno.

Normal Steam Account (Banned) - /id/hking0036
Alternate Steam Account (Not Banned!) - /id/hking0036-alt

Steam support is very slow, but when they get back to you they seem to the pretty fair.

Nope.

I don't know, everywhere I go shows that they wait weeks or months for an automated response. It's really obnoxious to deal with support teams like that. Have you ever done anything with them?

Yep, once or twice but their solution is not what I wanted.
It's like my account was made in Malaysia and that time the currency they used was in USD.
When I came over to UK for studies, I couldn't purchase anything.
They needed me to scan my passport but I wouldn't want to give them my personal details.
So I just made another account in UK. lol

Pretty stupid. How long did it take for them to get back to you?

i've lost count of the number of horror stories involving steam customer support. luckily i only play one game, have around 6-7 people on my friend list and don't engage in any large-scale trading, so i have yet to require their assistance on anything. from what i know, once you submit a ticket, you just wait for their reply and can do nothing else

best of luck

I used to have the number for Valve HQ. The couple of times I needed something from them I just called and started at ext. 1 until I got a human being on the phone. They were actually helpful and resolved my problems pretty quick, but they were definitely out of their comfort zone talking to someone directly. The last time was a couple of years ago so I'm not sure that even if I still had the number you'd be able to get through.

I understand the need for companies like valve and blizzard to have a robot try and sort you out before a person clicks "not our problem" or "yes, I can help you" but it's bull**** to have to deal with it.

considering the scale of their player bases, i'm surprised they don't enlarge their customer service support, Valve in particular. adhering to their current model won't work forever, because one day even the fanboys will turn against them

I forgot to mention, I finally got my account unlocked this past Friday, so a total of 17 days from the 13th. Fantastic. At least I have it back, though.

That means if anyone wants to add me they can!

That's not really that crazy, when my bnet account got locked because I logged in on a friends pc and I needed to show them my ID to unlock my account...

Congrats on getting your account back.  I checked ur profile.  You should immediately leave all of those large groups.  They do nothing for you and only open you to risk of fraud or attack.  Only be a member of small groups where you know the admin, or better still, where you are the admin.  Then, make your profile private or friends-only.   And I would get rid of any friends that you don't play with regularly.  Somebody in one of those groups, or one of your "friends" probably did something that caused Steam ban.  Just my advice.  Also, stop trading crap.  It's not worth it.

Nah, I didn't get my account jacked. I think it was because I was using proxies to go on steam at school tbh. I have my steam account locked up, with it's own password tied to my email with 2-factor and a different unique password. Plus, the trading groups I'm in give me benefits on the sites which are pretty essential, the others inform me about updates for mods I use in tf2 and other stuff. As for trading, it's mostly for fun but I've gotten quite a few deals so I don't think I'll be giving that up anytime soon. Thanks for the advice nonetheless.
