Title: Howdy from Austin
Post by: XMIT on Wed, 28 January 2015, 14:42:48
Hello - I'm new to this forum but not new to good keyboards and computers in general.

At the moment I use WASD v2 keyboards (Cherry MX Clear) with Vortex PBT white-on-black doubleshot keys as my daily drivers. One of them has lubed switches - desoldering, disassembling, and re-assembling 87 switches takes time.

I own five Model M keyboards: one SpaceSaver, one '89 vinyl dye'd black, one '85 Industrial M, and two beiges (I think '89 and '92). I've done a bolt mod on the SpaceSaver and have two more bolt mods underway.

For me, 45g keys (Cherry MX Brown, Topre/Noppoo 45g) feel way too light. I can touch type nicely on Clears and the Model M is *almost* too stiff.

In the past I've enjoyed Alps switches and IBM/Lenovo rubber dome scissor switches (surprisingly good tactile feedback).

From time to time I contact keyboard and keycap manufacturers with random questions. Hopefully I'll post the answers that I learn here.

Nice to meet you!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Very nice collection - and well done for doing the maintenance on your keyboards!  Some mods take a little while to do properly, but as you can attest the results can be fantastic!
