As far as I can tell, the basic story is that DanGWanG was an enthusiastic guy who loved keyboards, but also opinionated, sometimes called people names, had some kind of ongoing complaint about the way people were posting in the classifieds section, and then got into some kind of private spat with some mods (Or maybe made some troll threads which were deleted and no longer can be seen?). It’s hard to tell exactly what happened, but when he was banned it seems like most people were quite surprised, because by all public appearances he was generally an enthusiastic and productive member of the community:
One way or another, “****face ******* ****head” seems pretty uncalled for. Calling people names behind their back when they’ve been gone from here for 2 years is pretty childish. Instead you could try to be classier and just say something like “he got into a private argument with the mods, during which he was harassing us and making a nuisance of himself, and we decided to temporarily ban him, after which he left for good” and leave it at that, with no profanity required.

I think you guys have really really thin skins and/or very selective memory, and a huge chip on your shoulder. Here’s the worst “vitriol” I can find from reddit:
In summary, I've been temporarily banned (set to release 2/2) but I have absolutely no intention of returning if it's still being ruled by the tyranny of GH moderators. I will be back sparingly, however, only to follow-up with my PMs, back them up for proof, and bookmark/save any content I can access before I get banned again.
Rip has been right many times about his predictions (keyboards/caps, bans, rules, etc.). I can safely say Rip, once again, has been right about the moderators.
I'm still surprised to see how much support I've been getting despite my aggravated persona as of late. For anyone really following me, I'm sorry you have to see me like this. With all the rules in place at GH, a place I still call home despite all the negativity, I can't say it's fun for me anymore.
The people I hate today were people I envied and shared wonderful conversations before. I ask myself, how did GH drive me mad? I take a step back, I start typing and all of a sudden it's obvious.
There are a couple of similar posts, and sure the guy was obviously upset and venting a bit, and was/is a bit of a drama queen, but nothing anywhere worth being called a ****face &c.

Fohat, it's obvious that he wasn't banned because of his enthusiasm. It was for quarrelling with the mods. (And he probably did a number of nasty pms).
Ban was probably more administrative in nature. If you're a mod trying to enforce the rules eg against threadcrapping, you wouldn't want to have to deal with someone PMing you nonstop and starting a fight everytime you sent him a message politely asking him to change a post.
It's like being cited for contempt of court when you disrupt proceedings by interrupting the opposing counsel. Doesn't make you a criminal in the slightest, but you could still be temporarily jailed in the county jail, literally behind bars.
Probably it was Dangwang's reaction that led to things going down a slippery slope.
And yeah, Nubbinator, I don't think there are great bargains to be had from Dangwang. In the past I'd messaged him for photos and more details, but I have found him reticent to even properly tell be what I was getting. I will not recommend this seller because I have not found him up front and honest with what he has.

My 2 cents....
DanG sold me some of my first caps - he was responsive, friendly, and answered a lot of my noob questions.
I have great memories of my first meetup in Chicago, that DanG organized, hanging out with SmallFry and talking keyboards.
I get some of the hatred - he was a bit of a loudmouth on the forum, and had little regard for the authority figures of GH. He deserved his ban, as he went out with a bang. But he is a nice guy, and I have never had a bad interaction with him.

Of course, you are as entitled to your own opinion of your friend as I am to my opinion of him. Everyone's experiences with a person will be different.
Now, to me and several others who were here when he left, he proved himself to be an ******* and a hypocrite. But I know not everyone feels that way about him. And that's fine. As I said, you have a right to your own opinion.
It's also possible that he chose not to **** over people who were close to him, both literally and figuratively. A person may be more reluctant to screw someone who "knows where they live," so to speak.
As always, YMMV.

Let me clear the air for a second because I realized that the majority of GH doesn't remember the events that took place, and (here's the important part) WHEN they took place. It's easy enough to simply put all the problems on me, and hey, that's fine. I'm here 2 years later without a care in the world, and bridges long burnt behind me. Geekhack will always be a beloved community to me, I love what it stands for and what kind of people it attracts, the analytic, self-served, and righteous opinionated folk. It stirs up discussion, challenges the norm and constantly evolves as new generations are being bred.
When I first started, I spent a lot of time on the community, writing guides, taking pictures, showing the world (literally all over the world) pieces of information that weren't available to them at the time. I helped tons of people, and of those tons of people, there's probably only a handful that really, really don't like me. And as jdcarpe said, that's their opinion of me. What's factual is that before I left, and even still today, I'm constantly receiving emails and PM's (on reddit of course) about how my blog and contributions is what started them on the path of Mechanical Keyboarding glory, and honestly that feels pretty damn good inside, dem feels naw mean? So even with all the bull**** that I stirred up in the past, I don't regret it for a second. Now, should I apologize to those that are (still) butthurt? Maybe...but to be honest, I don't even know what jdcarpe is upset about lol...I don't even remember blasting him on anything.
Regardless, I'll refresh everyone on the chronology of events as they happened. I'm called a hypocrite, and it's a true story. It's evident in my past and evident today. But why did I become one? Well here's why (and you won't find any of this information anymore as it's been long deleted): I was an advocate of keeping CC (and other novelty keycaps) prices down by defending GH market rules (i.e. making safer sales, no privatized sales, creating a list of shady buyers, making a list of people who were influencing/inflating the market, etc.) and was opposed by the GH moderator team at the time. Today, I see that there have been many improvements, but not for the sake of keeping novelty keycap prices down which is still good honestly. Anyway, being a strong advocate of that, I lobbied for a safer market and yet, people on GH still bought into hype, still spent absurd amounts of money and I felt that was all because the moderators had a secret initiative (with vendors and others) of making money. Many, many (many), people PM'd me saying (and still do today), "Oh I wish I could buy my first CC for $x, but I can't afford it with the prices as they are" and those are the cries that made me fight. I fought and fought to have more stabilized rules in place and wasn't making any progress. I tried to become a moderator but was quickly shut down. I tried to post in moderator forums, and they got deleted. So what could I do? I became crazy, one-sided and decided to reveal the secrets of many of the moderators at the time. Was it a ****ty thing to do? Yes absolutely, the world had to revolve around me and I needed to get my point across one way or another. I was ready to burn bridges, I became a martyr and decided that I've been driven to madness because of the community. And that's when it happened, I became a hypocrite. I took everything I stood for, and proved to the community that an ******* like myself could get away with making thousands and thousands of dollars on little pieces of plastic. Afterall, the community that I once loved now doesn't have my back, so what else could I do? I'm not the type to to sit back and relax, and if I was, I certainly wouldn't have contributed as much as I did.
So drama queen aside and the majority of that drama deleted, here I am 2 years later and I'm STILL being talked about, god damn! That's certainly a part of it. I was already hugely disappointed in you for your hypocrisy, and sad about how you left. Then I offered to buy the Salute back from you for the same value we traded for, and you said no and sold it to Brad, all because you wanted more money.
Was it worth it, to make a few bucks, while ruining your reputation and trashing any relationships you had with people here? That's the reason for the hatred and the name calling. It still stings to think of it.
That's also why people shouldn't buy from you. Because of your lack of character. People here liked and respected you, and you **** all over them when you decided you had enough of Geekhack, because of its new moderators.
By the way, I agreed with you outing the inner circle and their plans to make profit, while keeping the membership as a whole in the dark about the situation.
