Title: Sup
Post by: st0rm on Sun, 01 February 2015, 21:50:23
I'm probably just going to be a lurker but since I made this account might as well say hi.
I am an avid gamer and I'm starting to get into some programming too.
Currently I only have a qfr with mx red switches which is great for gaming but i find its a little bit too light for typing.(still is a lot better than rubber domes) Because of this I'm saving up for a new mech which would be better for typing :D

hmm... I'm not really sure I have been looking at either topre or cherry mx clears. I kinda want an hhkb just because for me it looks super sweet

Welcome to Geekhack!

Clears will be quite a bit heavier than reds, plus they have a tactile bump half way down.

Topre 45g is allegedly the same weight as MX reds, but due to the different force curve they feel slightly heavier.

The best idea is, if you can, try each of the keyboards before buying, which usually means finding a retailer near you or a friend who is willing to let you try a few keyboards, or see if you are near one of the meetups that is scheduled.

I was looking for heavier switches because the reds are, for me; too light for typing.
Unfortunately there is nowhere near me to test keyboards so the best I can do is a switch tester, which I cant even try topre from.

I also find reds way too light, preferring blacks or greens.  Or buckling springs ;)

Clears also have a tactile bump that reds do not, and seem quite popular.  If you do end up getting a keyboard with clears and decide you don't like it, you should be able to resell it for not much less than you paid for it, and chalk the difference to experiencing one more keyboard.
