Post by: radish on Sun, 01 February 2015, 22:01:39
hey guys i was wondering if i can buy these... i wanted to build a board from clear mx switches with red/black stems. i got a kmac2 and going to get a gons pcb for it... short of tearing apart a corsair k70 for the rgb switches... where can i get them?

would the k70s even work in a gons tkl 87 kmac pcb kit?

They're not commercially available yet. And to answer your second question, no.

The closest you'd be able to get using MX switches would be clear switch tops. Or you could get with the Gateron train ;)

Well, from what I've heard a seller around here will be stocking some Gateron clear tops in their store. I'll PM you.

If you don't want to wait at all, Techkeys carries clear tops, but the quality isn't very good and they tend to break quite often

I actually bought some recently from taobao, if you don't mind shopping from there. You can find the clear switch tops by themselves without buying entire switches. For example, http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=42536119554 or http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=41342949204

I bought some of these recently and am just waiting for them to be shipped from the proxy service. Based on the pictures and the description of the plastics being from Switzerland, they're probably Gateron switch tops but I won't know for sure until I get them. :)

Wait for someone to start a group buy for Gaterons.
Abostudio transparent tops are crap and break easily.

Don't just wait, join in the IC: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=68145.0

Or this one: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=68356.0

Not sure who makes the ones in Shadovved's IC, but they're not the Abostudio ones.

I have 3 boards with abostudio transparent covers... And they're still fine.  Been about 1+ years now.

The brittleness of the covers shows when you take them off frequently.
If you don't bother with them ever beyond assembly, they shouldn't break.

Guess I'm really lucky.  I swapped some ghost blacks to panda clears then to ergo clears using the same covers.

Guess I'll keep them as they are haha.
