Title: O-Rings on Clears
Post by: daerid on Tue, 03 February 2015, 01:26:27
Are sublime.

I have a set of about 90 50A-R o-rings that I tried on previous boards and hated. With the fury of a thousand fiery suns.

However, on the Clears... oooohhhhh yeah. That's nice as F**K. They really accentuate the tactility of the switch, and the reduced travel distance actually makes Clears feel lighter and more effortless to type on.

Highly recommended.

I agree, adding o-rings makes them feel lighter if you like to bottom out. You can try inserting 2 o-rings to further reduce the travel distance. I can use 2 with the smaller cross section o-ring but not with the larger one.

You should try soft silicone trampolines on 62g ErgoClears.... Mmmmm, good. Especially with some GMK Cherry or SA profile caps (any decently heavy keycaps, really).

I can't stand orings / trampolines on linears for some reason, though.

I thought you did not bottom out on Clears? Because the spring gets very strong towards the bottom ?

It's easier not to because of the spring constant, but it still happens. It's not really THAT much harder at the bottom than Black springs.

DO my jailhouse mod, you won't need clears any more.

+1

Only reason to have clears is if you want in the middle actuation instead of at the top.

I'll have to give it a shot. I absolutely can't stand Blues these days, but the jailhouse mod was always intriguing. They don't click anymore, right?

Silent bump, even quieter than lubed clears. I'd say the bump is slightly less than clears but much higher than browns

Lubed clears, lighter springs, o-rings and GMK goodness = love with every stroke...

FYI I found several "jailhouse" on geekhack if you need more detail or pictures.

tried on clears, didn't like it...atleast pcb mounted clears. I am now using panda clears (with vintage blacks spring) and I have to say that I love the typing feeling. Next step, to lube them.

I like my big bumps on ErgoClears, but I do like the sound of higher actuation point. I may have to try some. This is the only reason I would ever buy Blues! ;)

Mine came off a TG3 Data911 (cop keyboard with blacks.  Wonky layout)

I have two of these, cut one up to fit on a 60...and lost it.  Want to keep this one intact because I actually love my Data911 and may soon try blues + rubber.

Makes MX blacks feel similar to Topre, but with the upforce provided from the MX spring.  I love it.  Doesn't work with all caps though..
