I'm gonna start in IT support the 2nd march and realized to my horror that I would have to go touching other peoples computers, with their non-tiling window managers and qwerty keyboard layouts. So to help me with my transition I was checking out the possibility of getting a 2 keyboard that I would be carrying with me and carrying a usb stick that would have the dvorak programming layout for windows and linux. But I would rather not have to alter a every computer I touch before I start working. So was wondering what would happen if I programmed a keyboard layout as hasu did with the hhkb. What would happen if I programmed my layout while I had a norwegian layout and I would connect the keyboard to a computer with a german layout? Would I have to change the layout back to norwegian before I could use the keyboard?
I'm also wondering if someone has programmed the WASD V2 keyboard this way. I'm not quite ready to invest close to 300 USD for a hhkb since I'm just starting work :)

I think in order to do what you're looking to do is to replace the controller on your WASD board with something like a Teensy. I'm not sure how easy/hard that might be to be honest.

There are several programmable keyboards these days, from the Poker II to Korean customs. A little digging around can probably yield you some information on which might be suitable for you. Then you could always program it for the Dvorak layout, and it would keep the same layout for any PC you connected it to.
Now, as for the language settings, you would likely have to set those yourself on the PC you're at.

Could you build an outboard Teensy, program it for Dvorak, and just plug whatever keyboard into it?

@Firebolt1914: My thoughts exactly. Also have no idea how hard it is :'(
@jdcarpe: The poker ii doesn't support programming of the normal keys it seems http://deskthority.net/wiki/KBC_Poker_II, I'll check Korean Customs more thoroughly tomorrow, but they do seem expensive. What I want is a simple keyboard, like the HHKB https://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=pfu_keyboards,hhkbpro2&pid=pdkb400bn. I currently have the WASD V2 tenkeyless with non printed keys, which I think is good enough, but I'm starting to realize that I don't use the arrow keys enough that they are justified, same with all the keys above the arrow keys.
Am I reading you correctly that I have to change the language layout back to the one that I had when I programmed if it is different?
@fohat.digs: I have no idea :P
