Title: New Mechanical Keyboard Dilemma

New to the forum and I have learned a lot from reading through the pages.  I have been using a Ducky Shine 3 with Blue MX switches for the past week.  I thought I was loving the keyboard and I really don't have any problems with it, but I plugged in my Dell SK-8110 that I've been using for the longest time and I've finding that I'm faster and more accurate.  So, now I'm all confused if I want to spend this much on a keyboard if my experience isn't really enhanced.   IDK, more testing I guess.

I'm thinking that I probably need both a Blue and Red switch keyboard to be happy.   :eek: :p :eek:

Man, that thing is gross.  It took me a little while to grow accustomed to my first mechanical.  Especially since I was paying a lot more attention to my fingers.  Now when I use something other than MX brown I notice a drop in my efficiency.

I noticed that while I was a little faster on a mechanical the real pleasure for me was actually the elongated use times without feeling any fatigue or something. Not needing to bottom out and only going down about as far makes it much easier on the fingers for me. Is the membrane keyboard providing the same comfort all the way through longer sessions as well?

Super gross. The flash really picked up the grime in the dark.   :thumb:  (granted my work is in animal rescue and I always have 10+dogs and 5+ cats lurking around)

It definitely isn't a pleasure typing on the Dell, I think I'm just used to cheap experiences.  I was rotating between a $5 Inland that was probably the cheapest keyboard ever made.  There is probably a learning curve with quality.  I'm not having buyers remorse, just wondering if I should maybe skip the LED and pickup a couple CM TKs in Blue and Red for the same price.

Hey :) I am pretty new here too. And although I have to say I have experienced some improvement when I moved from RD to MX it has not made me crazy fast. The main thing for me is the feel and the noise and the customization element. Okay mainly collecting clacks. But there is so much more for me than just the typing speed. My two cents.

It's probably the change in keycap profile that is throwing you off, a month of constant use should fix that!

The feeling is also very important, IMO

You can have a very fast and agile car, yet you might enjoy riding a more luxurious/comfortable/dependable car (in this case clean too)

Clicky keys are a completely different experience it seems, it's like a typewriter, it's damn cool

I'm also experiencing a similar accuracy fail from the mechanical switch but it's almost gone now

I've been switching back and forth and I'm starting to enjoy my time on the mechanical keyboard much more.  I think I just needed a little time getting used to the profile of the keys.

I also decided against the Ducky 3.  It was a really nice keyboard but I paid $180 for it locally (you can find it online for $140 and the Ducky Shine 4 for $150).

I happen to find a Cooler Master Rapid-I with Blue Cherry switches and WhiteLED backlight for $20.  It was too good to pass up.  I am really impressed with the quality of the keyboard and it has a great feel and weight to it (better than Ducky?).  It has five backlight modes as well as being able to program certain backlight modes.  The case has a real nice soft feel to it.  I'll definitely be keeping this board, not only because of the price but because it feels really nice and it also fits better on my little desk.

Wow that's a beautiful/simple keyboard, I didn't like Ducky's as they are too flashy, the only issue of the CM's seems to be the cabling as far as my research goes

Yes it really is a great little keyboard.  I'm really enjoying it.  There was a really nice firmware update and there has been the addition of a couple really fancy LED modes.  I really think that the white LED looks really classy.  There is a white plate, so the LED really glows.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Congratulations on finding a good keyboard so cheap!  And welcome to TKL land - they are great, unless you really need a numpad, but you can always buy a separate numpad and move it out of the way when you don't need it.

The QFR-I case is probably rubber coated - most of their other cases are rubber coated.

I also get the feeling that my QFR is a bit more sturdy than my Ducky - I suepect CM just uses thicker plates.
