Title: Hey folks!
Post by: phantaxo on Thu, 12 February 2015, 10:52:50
Hey there!

i havent introduced myself yet but its not too late i guess :)

what can i say? i started getting interested in modifying my first mechanical keyboard the steelseries 6gv2 after its keycaps got shiny like within the first 2 days.
i tried this and that and got more and more excited about keycaps and keyboards as such. since i am from europe/germany i also didnt really like the design most european keyboards have. i neither like the numpad since i havent used it anyways nore did i ever enjoy germany keyboard layouts at all.

well here i am and i cant stop expanding my collection of keyboards and keycaps

nice to be here !

Welcome!

What kind of sets are you looking at? There are so many amazing options available right now, it is a good time to jump in and join the fray! The Steelseries has a non standard bottom row, right? That must make it harder than necessary to find some caps that will fit.  What other boards have you been using?

thanks for your reply!
well i am currently not looking for something to be honest. but i am quite new to this so i am pretty sure i will fall in love with certain keycaps or keyboards or mousepads or whatever very soon again. i am pretty open minded regarding that stuff.
i already switched from my old steelseries to a leopold keyboard a few months ago.

the only thing i am currently really looking for is another FC700R in graphite which is already discontinued and thus pretty hard to find or maybe i will go for the new fC750R once its available with mx black switches :) it feels like mx blacks are way harder to get tho

it's only a matter of time before you catch the bug. heck, i'll be very surprised if none of the ongoing/upcoming groupbuys tickle your fancy. enjoy your stay!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Were the keycaps actually getting shiny, or was it just oils from your fingers transferring to the keycaps?  If just oils, they can be cleaned off quite easily.  I use denture tabs in warm water - works very well!

If they are getting shiny, PBT keycaps might help.  PBT is a stronger plastic that resists shining for very much longer.
