I think the brass can't do much good for your desk, even if it's made from metal as well.

The effect is somewhat mixed; a little horrifying yet still "spiffy". But at least it isn't as gross as the "mouse mouse (http://www.instructables.com/id/Mouse-Mouse!/)" link I found in the comments on that article.

Oh come on! How could he make that without giving it red glowing LED eyes?
