Title: shipping issues from Japan
Post by: TopreFan333 on Fri, 13 February 2015, 12:12:10
I ordered a white set of HHKB keycaps from a guy on eBay in Japan on 1/20 to be delivered to me in New York. I'm not 100% sure how he shipped it, but the tracking shows it "Processed Through Sort Facility TOKYO INT D, JAPAN" as of 1/27 -- but absolutely no information after that.

I know it's international, but it's been weeks at this point. Anybody have any experience with getting shipments from Japan >> USA and whether this all sounds normal?

It's normal if he didn't use EMS to ship it.
Japan Post can be super slow sometimes and tracking can be lacking in the interim.

Try 17track.net and see if they can pull more tracking info for you.

I bought a set from akibashipping on Jan 11, shipped on the 14th.   Estimated delivery was between Jan 26 and Feb 10.  Received mine on the 30th.  It may take some time, but you'll probably get your set.

Yeah, if you didn't get EMS, don't be surprised if it takes a few weeks to get to you, especially since you're in New York. The international sorting center there can take a while, longer if the package gets flagged for a customs inspection.

If you're the impatient type like I am, it's generally worth it to use EMS for shipping from Japan. My HHKB Type-S with extra caps shipped on a Saturday and had the first delivery attempt the next Tuesday, and the cost was only $5 more than standard airmail and $12 more than SAL (surface, which can take months to arrive).
