Hey guys! Owner here from PCGAMINGRACE.com (http://www.pcgamingrace.com/), no doubt some of you may have seen some of our mouse mats (largely popular on reddit). For the last year, I have been working on establishing a brand, and products that are not ridiculously priced, and of high quality. I feel like certain brands like Razer have really jacked their prices on everything and leading the general direction of PC gaming the wrong way, and I want to change that.
Being a mechanical keyboard user myself, one of the things I love having is a wrist rest....however as any of you that have tried to buy one knows that its tough to find something good, and I want to change that.
Based on my experiences:
I am sure most of you guys don't want a dildo on your desk (http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Gel-Filled-Cushion-Wrist--Black/dp/B00004Z5RA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422668138&sr=8-1&keywords=belkin+wrist+rest) , spoiling the beauty of your mechanical keyboards.
The only other best option is the Grifiti Fat Pad (http://www.amazon.com/Grifiti-Standard-Keyboards-Mechanical-Materials/dp/B004D8PYE2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422668160&sr=8-1&keywords=Grifiti+Fat+Pad) which is an overpriced strip of foam that starts peeling quite quickly.
There are also the higher priced Ducky (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=91)and Filco (http://www.amazon.com/Filco-Leather-Wristrest-Compact-Keyboards/dp/B001EY9RJQ) wrist rests, each with its own flaws and issues.
So I am curious what is something you would like to see in a wrist rest? Is soft-ness important? Is looks the only thing that matter? Durability?

Something that looks great. Like some of the custom wrist-rests that some people on the forum make.
I do not actually use them. Neither when typing (which, as I understand it, you shouldn't) nor when "resting" my hands.

Durability: like you said, these things should not fray. Ever. These things will be abused like hell since they aren't expected to be fragile. Don't cop out on materials.
Looks: Make it clean for us. No one wants to see any obnoxious logos. Logos will just make us run towards smaller artisans who respect that.
Separate yourself: Even though I just told you to make your wrist rest clean, you should at least do something to set it apart from other wrist rests. If your product seems to be the same as any other, the consumer will just look towards whatever is cheaper.

They're *wrist* rests (resting wrists is bad), thus not wide enough.
Speaking of that, it might be interesting to make a Nostromo-like shell that would be tall enough, provide support for hands from wrist to palm and could somehow slide to avoid wrist deviation.

Well, technically they're palm rests for resting the nub of your palm on while NOT actively typing (you should lift your wrists up so they're straight while typing). I like hard rests with a slightly soft surface. My favourite is wood with leather covering, like Noko's customs, and about the same height as many stock case front edges.
I can't stand "soft" rests, especially those gel things.

I like the gel type that feel like boobs. That's enough.
Overall I think it's not ultimately the material of which they are made from what makes the best wrist rest, but the ergonomy of the placement.

Your mousemats look awesome. That white one is super cool.
I think firm is good. Ones similar to Noko's rests would probably be your best bet, as she does make a roaring trade in them (and she's very good at what she does!)
