Post by: Novus on Mon, 23 February 2015, 19:17:30

You remember the first episode where the phaser comes out of the wrong place.
God I'm such a nerd right now.

It's all about the exploding head at the end of the first season...

I just could never get excited about TNG.

They tried to replace Spock with 4 separate actors and still could not pull it off.

Of the original crop of movies, I liked the first one, for its pompousness, and the whale one, because it captured the silly camp of the original series.

Now I have teenage kids, and have watched the new re-boot, which I hated at first. After 2-3 viewings, I have come to like the first one pretty well, although the 2nd still sucks because I was sick of Khan from the beginning.
And Sherlock = Khan? Give me a f*cking break!

Ehhhhh.... Data was the replacement for Spock and he was great, imo.

I'm actually in the process of watching these episodes, I missed them the first time as a kid. They're not bad if you take them at face value, but I'm still in the first season.

Horse hockey.

Spock was: (1) first officer, (2) science officer ("alien"), (3) mind-reader, (4) master of logic

Riker + Worf + Troi + Data = less than Spock

Post by: Novus on Mon, 23 February 2015, 21:45:00
Actually you're forgetting it's a Trio
You remember that scene where they read Kirk's message in Tholian web?
Spock = Heavy logic
McCoy = Heavy intuition
Kirk = balancing act roaming space STDS Canadian Midwesterner.

TNG didn't establish it's dynamic for quite some time
Geordi became chief engineer.
Riker grew a beard.
Troi stopped saying the incredibly obvious.
Wesley got kicked off and expelled.
Data stopped using contractions.
Picard stopped being an awkward French.
Crusher got demoted.

Also TNG had plot issues.
Klingons apparently joined the Federation but this was retconned shortly later.
Romulans weren't supposed to return but they did when the viewer ship ratings were stagnating.
etc etc

But you seem to have forgotten that Data was a human computer, with vast amounts of knowledge, superhuman strength and abilities, ability to fill in any role in Starfleet (and just about has)

Truth.

Well, I think there's at least 1 reason to collect the DVD set..

Because basically for the Bray  they went in and aggressively painted in blacks, because the film rolls back then had bad low light performance.

So, what ends up happening is we got alot of black-crush in the Bray..

For example,  the Hair looks much more detailed on the DVD.. but on the Bluray, everyone has this muted digitally smoothed out hair.

We also lost some texture detail (probably not important)..

Overall.. the updated CGI really modernizes the show..  though now it looks just a little camp because of the contrast in detail levels..

Mhmmmm baby

In the future with replicators and no money (aside from latinum and the kind the federation uses to bribe other races) I wonder if hamburgers taste any good.

Seriously I love how they say no money in Star Trek ... And didn't completely think it through.

I'm still mad that Darth Vader turned out to be Luke's father.  Lame.  Oh.  Sry.  Spoiler Alert?

Data was the new and improved Spock.

Data vs. Spock in a battle to the death:  Who wins?  Data in everything.  Strength, memory, intelligence, leaping ability, logic.  What if you pushed Data and Spock out of the Enterprise air lock?  Who would live?  Umm, Data.

Also, Q.  I dunno.  Do i like?

Klingons.  Still the kewlest.   Love to speak Klingon.  Way better than Elvish.  Favorite Klingon Proverb?  "Act, and you may eat dinner. Think, and you may be dinner." ~ Worf.

Also Worf was the new Wookie.  Only he could speak English.
