Title: Thank you GeekHack! Because of you I am gainfully employed!
Post by: KitWasHere on Tue, 24 February 2015, 17:17:33: You guys talked me into jumping for a mechanical keyboard and now I'm hooked. Ended up getting a TKL which I quickly fell in love with but I want MORE! DIY number pad commence: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=69040.0

In that thread I was alone on the layout I liked, so I set out to find a local machine shop to cut my plate instead of dropping $100+ for a one-off online. Indeed I found one and stopped by yesterday to discuss prices and materials, got to talking about past projects and jobs and stuff, brought up how since recent I've been unemployed and right before I left he asked me if I would be interested in working there!
Today was my first day, and I got to cut my own number plate on the laser! Stupidly left it there so no pictures but I am excited.

Who knew really liking clicky things could get you a job!?

And @Evo_spec, that is a definite possibility, when we first talked about my number pad I told the owner about the surprisingly large market for custom/high-quality keyboards and he seemed intrigued. After I've been there for a little while I'll see just how into it he is.
