So my dog sheds an absolutely incredible amount and despite my best efforts, I can see a strand or two of hair in the lens (not sure if in the camera or the lens itself). Would it be okay just to spray the insides with some compressed air to try and get it out?

I know absolutely nothing about cameras but I wouldn't think you would want to do that as it could end up pushing dust somewhere it doesn't belong.

What kind of camera is this? If it is just on the outside of the lens, you can use a lint-free cloth (like a glasses-cleaning cloth) and just wipe it off.
If it's a DSLR (or anything with a replaceable lens) and it is on the mirror or on the sensor, you can use a handheld blower (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00017LSPI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687702&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000XMBGSK&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1CN5NFHE11DKB8XRJ37D) (don't use compressed air). If you can't get it out and aren't comfortable trying to clean the inside of your camera, take it to a shop and have it cleaned. It isn't very fun, but it's better than having to get it repaired. It's very easy to damage parts inside the camera once you open it up.

Yeah, it's a rebel t3. I might just take it to a shop or something. You can't actually see the hairs in pictures, but I'd like to have it out anyway

If they can do it quick, they probably won't charge much for it. Just if you scratch the sensor, you're SOL and going in for repairs. Good luck!
