Edit: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=68130.msg1624558#msg1624558 has solutions to all the issues I ran into.
break off the plastic nub of a PS/2 male to male cable and use a windows xp machine to program it. the ChangeMe software doesn't seem to like detecting these RC keyboards in windows 7.

So I just received a Cherry RC80BM that I ordered off ebay, and the seller did not mention that it did not include the cord, which I am worried might be proprietary. The keyboard has an 8 pin Mini-DIN like this (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/Pseudo_miniDIN-8b_Diagram.png)
Are cables for these a standard thing, or am likely to need to make my own?

Rip off the plastic nub from a PS/2 cable.

Awesome, thanks a lot.
I was hoping it would be that, but I thought I had seen a photo of the cable with the other end being USB and I got a little worried.

alright, so i spliced together two ps2 cables from other keyboards and did pin to pin continuity tests to make sure the connections were good. both cables were off of ****ty keyboards and only utilize four of the pins + the outside of the connector. when i booted up with the keyboard plugged in, it lit up and beeps when i press buttons, but the buttons don't seem to be doing anything else and the programming utility (ChangeMe 5.19.3) doesn't recognize the device. i don't know if this is due to the cable not having all the pins, not being a usb cable, or the programming utility being the wrong one for this keyboard.
anyone have any ideas? any insight would be greatly appreciated.
