Post by: megarat on Wed, 26 August 2009, 22:35:08
Is this guy (http://cgi.ebay.com/BLUE-SLIDERS-ALPS-keyboard-Northgate-Omnikey-1989-CLEAN_W0QQitemZ380060655923QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item587d616133&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116) serious?  You can buy an HHKB Pro2 and a half for that much.

Also selling a Taiwanese Reveal keyboard with what looks like White Alps simplifieds for $399.

Somebody make him an offer of $10.

I love insulting these guys with lowball offers.

Is ebay seller Bob Tibbets, formerly from Northgate Keyboard Repair?

I bought a very nice Northgate Omnikey 102 from Bob a few months ago which made me appreciate the feel of real complicated ALPS keyswitches.

I don't know that much about Northgate keyboards, but even if this one is in pristine condition, is the market value really 400 bucks?

I would gladly shell out $400 for a NIB original IBM PC AT 84-key keyboard...if there are any still out there.  In the meantime, I'll have to be satisfied with my HH Pro 2 and soon to be received Topre 87U that y'alll convinced me to try.

Both my offers of $9.99 and $25.00 were denied.

He must have the reserve set at some outrageous amount (probably $399)

I'm not willing to test it.  One good Northgate Omnikey is good enough for me...for now.

I would have considered an acceptance of $25 for a pristine Omnikey a smokin'deal.  Hell, the platinum alone is worth at least 400 bones  : )

Northgates are great keyboards, arguably the most rugged keyboards ever (sorry, Model M, but you got NOTHING on my Evolution), but in no way, shape, or form are they worth anything close to $400.

I paid $80 (IIRC) for my Evolution NIB.

Model Ms have issues...Model Fs are the real tanks.
