Title: KBParadise v60 and v80 comparisons?
Post by: brimborion on Fri, 27 February 2015, 20:27:20
I have a KBParadise v60 MTS and it keeps coming back to my desk because it's very pleasant to type on. I got it in Matias Quiet, and I think based on my Matias Tactile Pro Mini I would like a clicky version.

I see that there is a v80 MTS coming out and since I don't have any TKL keyboards, maybe it would be nice to diversify and try that for the clicky version.

For anyone who has a Cherry switch v80 and a v60 of any kind, are they similar or do they use completely different foundations? Is the v80 like a v60 with more keys, or is it like a completely different keyboard brand?

I think the v80 MTS will have the ability to use Cherry keycaps, so that is one thing I might wait for, but I also feel like having a new v60 show up on my doorstep like tomorrow.

I also love  my V60 with Matias quiet! I use a CM Storm QFR, which is a TKL with Cherry MX blues, before I owned V60. After some time on my V60, I actually find it hard to get back to 80% TKL. I just can't help using fn key combinations because they are so convenient. So I end up getting a Frosty Flake controller board for my QFR and re-programmed it to have a very similar fn key layout as the V60  ;D. It might sound kind of silly to do so with a TKL but I enjoy accessing all keys without frequently moving my hands across the board.

BTW I don't think it will be likely to use Cherry keycaps on V80MTS unless you replace the switches with Cherry ones, which makes it not so much different from normal V80. I think what they mean is the PCB is compatible with both Cherry and Matias switches, like the Infinity keyboard does.

Oh, quite right, I read that wrong.

Actually I really wish they could use Cherry keycaps , though this thought is unrealistic :(. There are all kinds of Cherry keycaps all over the place but ALPS keycaps are so rare. All I can hope for now is Matias making PBT keycaps for ALPS.

Usually by the time I ask a question I am well past the point of no return, so I just ordered a second v60 MTS, this time with clicky switches.

KBParadise rocks. I hope someday to have PBT for it, but as long as that happens before my keys get as shiny as the ones on my Rosewill, I'll be ok.
