Hey folks,
My name is Max. I joined a few months ago, and have mostly been lurking the classifieds. Just wanted to poke my head out and say "hi". I promise, when I have something interesting to post, I will.
Until then, more lurking!

Nothing wrong with lurking! That's how I started as well. It took the Toxic group buy to get me fairly active in this community.

Yeah, nothing like a group buy to get you to poke your head out. I'm in on the Gateron GB (just paid today!) but I just filled out the Google Docs form.

Welcome to Geekhack!
Have you got a mechanical keyboard already? Or planning to build one (based on the purchase of some switches)?

I have a Das Model S with Browns. I have to say, it is a very well built board, but is it ever ugly. I've since taken off the case and taped some objects on the end to give it an angle. Pretty sketchy, but it works, and I don't have to deal with the ugly fingerprint magnet plastic **** that Das somehow thought was a good idea.
I've replaced some of the switches (vintage blacks on the mods, and linear greys on esc space and return) and am going to use some Gateron Blues for the f row and possibly the numpad as well. I also have some Ergo-Clears on the way from a fellow geekhacker which I will replace the remaining Browns with.
I'm also in a potential GB (currently an IC) over at Deskthority for a Phantom Plate. If that goes through, I plan to make a Phantom with a numpad and arrow keys, much like that CM board. I've always wanted a TKL but since I'm a math student who writes programs all the time, the numpad is my best friend.
As for key caps I have the Das blanks that came with the model S, and some granite. I managed to get a mono legends recently so I'm anticipating a pretty clean looking board. Since I have a DSA Dolch on the numpad currently, and the granite numpad keys (mono legend, but the numbers not the symbols) in the top row, I can't wait to top it off with the single set of curly braces, period without the comma, etc.
Enough about me: can I ask a few questions about the GH community? How do you guys feel about Granite? The folks at /r/mk seem to get upset every time someone posts about it, but then looses their **** whenever it appears on /r/mechmarket. Obviously DT loves it, but I don't see much of it here.
Also, is it kosher that I'm a redditor? I don't fully understand the drama between these forums, but I gotta say that I really appreciate what Ripster is doing at /r/mk. Do people get upset when you bring up his name?
Anyway, I like this community more every time I come here. I'll post some pictures of my board sometime soon. Until then, I look forward to hearing back from you about my questions.

Take the shell off of the Das, sand it and get it sprayed.
Granite is a nice set. I'm unsure if there is drama over here, really. I doubt it since we're an awesome family. :D
And a fair few of us use Reddit, including I. Ripster is just Ripster. He likes to have his little snap but leave him to it.

You could always get a separate numpad ;)
DAS are pretty solid, but the first things most people comment on is the shiny case.
I like the style Granite, it was my first DSA set. Although I ended up not being that fond of the DSA profile, and the keyboard they were on is now sporting the Nuclear Data Green SA set.
And it is best not to mention He Who Should Not Be Named - little good will come of it. And little bad. In fact very little of anything really.
