we basically add 1 or 2 new members each day, and have been for the last year. this can only be a good thing for the mechanical keyboard industry.
-
Anything that gets further away from the junk that comes with the average computer is a step in the right direction in my book.
-
I was wondering that myself, there seems to be a random post by someone new pretty much every day for the last week or so. Cool thing though! Let the truth get out about quality keyboards!!!!!
-
In the two years, or so, the site has been active, we have seen elitekeyboards start up, The Keyboard Co. in the UK is starting to carry quality keyboards. Deck has expanded their product line to include other switches that are a little more suitable for typing. Ms. Keyboard's company (I can't think of the name off the top of my head) has expanded their product line. Reps from retailers and manufacturers have joined and participated. We have been featured in various publications, and the list goes on. It's exciting being part of such a unique, and seemingly influential, community on the Web. It feels good to think that, maybe, we influenced some change in the marketplace and the computing world.

true dat.
in fact, everything in the industry is growing and changing - except unicomp. :-|

In Unicomp's defense, the buckling spring mechanism is irritatingly layout dependent. Because there has to be a specific "mask" for each key layout, compared to a individual switch keyboard, where you just move key switches to different places on a circuit board.

I can tell you that this site IS WATCHED by the industry, and that can only be a good thing. Anytime a manufacturer or distributor hears the positives and negatives of their products change happens.
I personally enjoy the diversity that this forum supports, and the passion the members have for their tools (no pun intended).
Keep the discussions flowing!

Speaking of Fentek...I'd be more then happy to setup a support forum for them if Ms. Keyboard would be interested in moderating it.
(just let me know Ms.K!)
-
What I really like about the growth is the diversity that we are attracting along the way. We have artists, writers, coders, gamers, and general users. Each of these groups bring to the table different views of the one instrument that we all use the Keyboard.

I haven't been following. Just what exactly have you done to Metadot for them to send the Queen after you?
She looks kind of chapped too.

The DAS issue maybe?
His constant bashing doesn't help meditate the situation though.. LOL.
Always been a pleasure to read your comments there ripster.

Yea we all have our axes to grind. But at least ripster puts an axe to everyone not just metadot. He took his axe grinding a little seriously though with that poor unicomp Boscom board he is having fun with:

Unicomp needs to communicate better.
Maybe a little openness of "These are our limits and our resources" would end years of "Why can't I have a Model F 127-key terminal-style board with the main typing area laid out like a standard 104, in blood red with Hangul double-shot keycaps"
Otherwise, the products are fine, but after a few months on a Customizer 104, I find those Blue G80-3000s tempting.

This is one of the things that sucked me into this site! The keyboard is also such an integral part of our lives, and has been for so long.
It is also nice to see a Forum that is not overrun with people at each others throats! As I have seen on so many other forums, this one is more inviting :)
Unless Metadot finds out where I live.
Of all the criticism they get from all over, I can't even imagine that you would be on their radar. But... on the other hand you are quite prolific when it comes to pointing out their shorcomings. =P
I like the idea of GEEKING IT UP and I imagine that ''geek'' is the new ''cool''.

if metadot is after ripster, I have to imagine unicomp is sending the queen after me! :)

I still think it's funny Brian banned you. Maybe if you offered to buy one of his "RARE, EXOTIC" boards he'd forgive you. Don't mention Geekhack though - I might want to buy some boards from him someday.
i get the feeling he bans people fairly easily. "No buckling springs for you!!!"
The bright side is how much money i've saved since then ;D

He likes Webwit. Just another data point.
hahaha that should be revealing ;-D

Look at how many mechanical keyboards are being sold on amazon, of all places. Even a year ago there was maybe just one.
http://www.amazon.com/SolidTek-KB-6600ABU-Mechanical-Switch-Keyboard/sim/B001F07BWO/2/ref=pd_cp_sg_sexpl
(scroll down).
Some decent prices, too.

Wow, that's awesome! Finally getting some representation in the normal market! And yeah, the prices aren't bad and great selection, they've got all the major ones.

Well sorta. I got excited to see the Cherry keyboard (http://www.amazon.com/Classic-104KEY-Black-Keybd-Switch/dp/B000SZVM68/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_1_2) but it was a G81-1800LUMUS-2.
The G81s feel like a linear springy rubber dome because that's what they are.
I got excited about this, too, but it was a diques.

Ehr, the G81's don't have rubber in them - you must be thinking of the G86 series.
Still, their stiff linear non-tactile switches are by no means exciting to type on for longer periods of time.

I would beg to differ. They are spring-loaded rubber domes.
-
You must be mistaken. I have a couple of G81's and they feature a plunger-and-leaf-spring switch sitting on top of a membrane (also referred to as FTSC), all using metal springs but no rubber domes.
That's also why they're rated for >50 million keystrokes per switch. See the G81-1800 page (http://www.cherry.de/english/products/point_of_sale_G81-1800.htm) on Cherry's website.

You're absolutely right. For some reason, I was thinking Fujitsu Peerless.
