Title: Cities: Skyline
Post by: Belfong on Fri, 13 March 2015, 21:01:49
Is anyone playing this excellent city building game? It's taking me away from spending time in GH!

I'll probably be buying it next week.

I'll probably be buying it next week.

It's very cheap in my local currency. Since Steam sells game in my local currency, I'm surprise that the game price are slightly lower. In this case, Cities is about us$18. Almost a no brainer for me since this is a hit.

G2A has it for $23 which seems like a pretty great deal to me.

I've never used G2A. Ever had bad luck with the keys?

Nope, always worked for me.

Thanks. I'm tempted to get Cities. I loved Sim City 2000. I want more.

Everything SimCity was supposed to be. Still loved that game though, at one point (maybe still) my friend and I had a city with population top 25 in the world. Fun times ;D

I bought Cities: XL a long time ago and really liked it, until you got to the point where you had a medium to large sized city and then it started lagging horrendously because it didn't utilise multi-core processors...

Has that been fixed?

From streams I've seen of it, seems like everything that the recent Sim City should have been but wasn't.

And curved. roads.

I have been really tempted to get this. Maybe I should get Belfong to buy me a copy and gift it over steam if you get it that cheap.  :p

I can do it. But I don't know if it will get tied to the region. You want to try it?

I've had people in US bought GTA4 and gift it to me. Back then GTA4 is US and UK only in Steam so that worked for me.

You should do some googling to see if that will still work, Steam has been getting very *****y about international gifting

I just did some googling and apparently most games are region-locked to prevent exactly this.. Thanks for the offer though Belfong!  :)

It's a totally diffeent dev from what I'm told, but my city is quite large and has zero lag. It's not perfect and there is some stuff which can be done better but it's a great game, really fun and the Steam mod support is awesome and so easy it makes this game a lot of fun simply to play around with what people have been doing

A coworker already has about 50 hours on it. From what I've seen, I'm impressed. Can't wait to pick it up, but it'll be a while since I don't have the time to play right now anyways.

I've been playing it for a while, so far I've been enjoying it a lot :) Watching the traffic flow is one of the best things in my opinion, but maybe that's just me...

Traffic flow is definitely the hardest part of the game so far, in my experience. I had to restart my first town at about 60k pop after I had poorly constructed roads. My second town is going a lot better!  :)

Traffic seems really buggy, and I've seen a lot of complaints about it.

Otherwise, this is the game that Sim City should have been.

it is something they are working on, though the steam mod community is pretty active so I would expect to have more options for it pretty soon-ish either way

I'm going to revive this thread and ask, as I need something to buy;

Can you plan out your city before you build it? Like I'm guessing you have a certain amount of money, but can you lay out all your roads and stuff and just not build the ones you want until you want them? For instance I would like to build a huge ring road, and have my city on the inside. However I wouldn't need the ring road until my population increases, but i would like to know what the constraint is, and where my perimeters lie. I would also like to build my big artery roads so I don't have to worry about upgrading them afterwards.

Sorry for the long winded post, but hopefully someone gets what I mean. Something like Banished. Ish.
