Title: What's the last stock board you've bought (custom board users)
Post by: Novus on Sun, 15 March 2015, 18:54:07
For those of you that primarily use custom boards or solder your own stuff what's the last stock board you've bought? Do stock boards still appeal to you?

The last purley stock board I purchased fully working was a topre 104ub. I still think I am the only one on Geekhack who owns one  :))

Well, since I mostly do vintage stuff and am now transitioning into kustoms, the last modern stock keyboard I bought was a Leopold 660M which was a few months ago, but that was sold a month or so ago

The last one I bought for myself was a Cherry MX5000.

Only stock board I have is a hhkb but I only use custom cherry boards right now. Non customs have zero appeal to me now, I use a custom layout on all my boards which is why I use them. Last stock cherry board I had though was a poker 2.

HHKB but it's no longer stock, the only board that I've bought and left unmodified is the code I bought in June.

Picked up a steelseries full size with blacks dirt cheap and barely touched.

Last stock keyboard I bought was a Poker II about 4 months ago. I sold it off and am currently using my last stock board, Realforce 55g, before I start getting all the my kits in the mail... TX1800, RS84, and hopefully a Duck Orion v2 too.

Last stock board was a KBT Pure although it's since been sold. Stock boards pretty much have zero appeal to me these days, I need programmability for my job so I don't mind paying a bit more to build something myself.

The QFR my fiancee is using. Only mod is the top case has been swapped, but other than that, board is still completely stock with reds.

I've been into topre lately so they have mostly been stock but then I modified them. The last one being a 104dk with variable switches that I silenced and lubed.

I haven't seen any stock MX or ALPS boards that really makes me want to buy them other than this weird desire to try an ergo pro.

The last keyboard that I bought stock with no intention of modding?

The HHKB. I would buy it again but maybe mod it.

Besides that I really don't care for non custom keyboards

Urm... Ducky G2Pro Special Tactile Mix (Browns and Clears).

My first mechanical and purchased without the intention to modify it... But I ended up chopping it up to make my ergo board.

I have since bought a KBT Pure Limited Edition (now with plate and highly modded switches), 2x G80-3000s to harvest switches from and 2x G84-4100s also for switch harvesting.

Not interested in stock boards any more.

Last stock board I bought was my first board, a QFR. I since built a GON Nerd60 and have Ergodox/Atomic parts on the way. There's just something about putting a keyboard together myself that appeals to me so much more than getting one in a box to just plug in and use.

Then again, I painted my QFR, swapped the alpha switches for clears and put dental bands on the remaining blues, so I guess it's not stock any more.

Stock boards are still cool. I mean look at that new QMX addon on the Uniqukey keyboards. It's cool to see what R&D at big companies turn out.

Yup, it's interesting, but will only dampen the upstroke with my favourite keycap profile, SA. I wish Cherry themselves would take this level of interest in developing their own products. I mean dampened switch casings would be as easy to develop as the QMX and work with ANY keycaps, but.... nope, lots of talk, no walk.

The last stock board I bought is my QFR in MX red. I had a gift card and it was on sale, so it only ended up costing me a total of $30USD. Seemed like a good cheap candidate for being a mod guinea pig to learn with.

It's not really stock anymore though, the first thing I did was buy a Frosty Flake to allow programmability. I've lost interest almost completely in boards that aren't programmable unless they're vintage.

I think I'm going to install a Soarers mod onto my SSK though.

The last board I bought that I had no intentions of modding was  a Coolermaster Quickfire Rapid, as an inexpensive backup TKL board in case my two primary boards break or are otherwise under the knife, or if I need a board that works in BIOS as some of my firmware mods are a bit temperamental with some BIOS revisions.

The only brand new stock mechanical keyboard I've ever bought from an actual vendor was Noppoo Choc Mini from qtan back in summer  2012. Actually, I bought a new POS keypad on sale a few months later.

I use my (undeniably custom) ErgoDox most of the time, but still get a second-hand keyboard here and there (so much that I have at least four dozens lying around). Most recently, it's been HHKB Lite2, a Cherry G80-18xx and a couple of OEM keyboards (Silitek I think?).

I havent bought many keyboards (only 5) and the last stock board i bought was a Poker 2 a little over a year ago. And yet modern stock MX boards dont really interest me anymore. If i ever buy a stock board again it would either be buckling spring, alps or topre. Maybe i will buy a stock MX board in the future again that i can carry around without worrying too much though.
