Title: Looking for a Fly new keyboard for work and home
Post by: SuBDivisions on Fri, 04 September 2009, 00:45:36
Sup everyone.. I have been a keyboard "coniseur" for more then 20 years now.. and i have maybe 40 keyboards at my house, ranging from the original Northgame Omnikey, to the Gateway 2000 AnyKey (Original), to the Logitech G15 (Original), and at work my Microsoft 4000..

I am lookin for new blood.. I want to find an ergonomic style keyboard, preferably black, with some nice feel to it, sort of like theone im using right now on my vista box (sk-6000)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Lite-On-Natural-Ergonomic-Keyboard-PS-2-SK-6000-NEW_W0QQitemZ130327888870QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item1e5825c3e6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

(this one is branded a4tech USA, but its a lite-on)..

I have a nice cherry keyboard, but i was very dissapointed when i got it years ago that the switches were harder to press and made me tired (its in my garage in the box, but i know its a g80-something).. tho i loved the pastic cap removeable keys that yo9ur able to re-letter..

anyway i think i want something that has the feel or sound of the das keyboard.. not a mechanical CLICK, more a light but solid press..  All of the new ergo keyboards out there really lack punch and quality..

Any thoughts?

Definatley not a fan of the kenisis style... that keyboard looks like someone took a cutting board, dumped some keys on it, and whereever they landed, they stayed...

I dont know what kind of switched they used, but the original Microsoft Natural Keyboard i liked the feel and sound off.. and the one im using currently (tho its white, and can use my once every 2 month, pop the key off and clean it routine)..

I did some searchingin the the forums and i came across a topic where someone bought the northgate evolution.. interesting, but if i was gonna drop coin like that i would bite the bullet on an ortek mck, or an avant stellar..  both of which you can use to put a dent in the fender of a 77 cadillac..

Im leaning twords one of these choices, even tho there not ergos:

Logitech DeNovo (the new one with the glidepad)

One of the Razer gaming keyboards:

Bringing my original g15 logitech to work... (it was ok for what i used, but i never was truly happy with the rubber domes on it..)

I see OCZ makes keyboard now:

They even make an OLED one, tho its above my price range.

How about a goldtouch?

not sure what switches it has but if you like the layout, a quick search on this site should tell you.

If you want something that feels like a Das and are not set on an ergo 'board, then the obvious choice is a Filco with blue Cherry switches.  Check out EliteKeyboards (http://www.elitekeyboards.com) website.

In this Slate review (http://www.slate.com/id/2216706), Laura Moser tries most of the ergonomic keyboards out there and finds the Kinesis to be the winner.

I judge keyboards by utility, not style. As for how the Kinesis was designed, see some of the research papers linked to at my site, which ripster noted above.

There is only one true ergonomic input device (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYDuy7wM8Gk).
