Title: Energy Drinks
Post by: SpAmRaY on Tue, 24 March 2015, 16:26:06
Anyone drink energy drinks?

To stay awake? Perform better? Just because you like them?

I know they are bad for you like everything else but we recently got a new vending machine at work and I had to try one of these.

Coffee > energy drinks any day of the week, but Monster Import is pretty darn good. Rockstar fruit punch is also good.

I don't even know what that means.

The Ultra line is actually not that bad for you, when you consider the amount of sugar that is in soda and juices.  The worst thing about them, is they contain Sucralose.  When you compare them to most of the other drinks in a convenience store, they aren't all that bad.

I drink them almost every day.

I prefer V - http://v-energy.com.au/

The blue variety if possible.

Monster is kinda yuck in comparison.  Red Bull seems to acidic (tastes so, anyway).

I've tried most of them, and I still prefer V.

V was my lifeblood until they discontinued the orange one recently. COME BACK ORANGE!!! That stupid red flavour is a poor replacement.

That was NOT orange, btw :p

Yes the red one seems odd, kinda like the blue one with an aftertaste of new carpet.

Lemon was ok.  I used to prefer the black one, but the last time I had it (after a long break) it was too sweet.

As a man guy who drank 17 cups of coffee just today - I couldn't agree more.

But sometimes it's nice with something that's also refreshing, I dislike monster and rockstar though - I like the Cult one with Lemon taste or something.

It comes down to "rate" of uptake..

Too little or too much will cause a fallout rather than the desired effect..

If you don't use caff regularly,  start with very little a few sips at a time..

When you feel "the power".. STOP immediately..  ride it out before more..

Haha yeah I had some massive debates with people about the flavour, best I could come up with was Orange Sherbet. Dammit now I want one so badly.

Used to drink the blue ones a lot before the orange came out but I can't do any of the other flavours any more, the orange ones ruined me!

I do have to admit that I feel a lot better since I gave up the energy drinks. Drink about 3L of water a day now and I have much more energy now. Also lost about 3 kilo's in the last fortnight!

I generally avoid Energy Drinks if I have to. I rather gulp down a can of coke than a can of Red Bull if I have to.
Furthermore, I tend to sway away from sugar free drinks as well. It may say 0 calories, but the things they used inside.... well I don't think it's safe for consumption tbh :D
Especially, diet cokes and such. I usually avoid stuff with aspartame in it. Might be me just being paranoid but rather be safe than sorry in the long-run.

The NOT orange one tasted like Fanta to me.

They do not particularly keep me awake.  On a typical working day I have water first thing.  Then iced coffee.  Then energy drink in the afternoon.  More often than not I will sleep on the train on the way home.

The only drink that has kept me awake is Jolt, but I haven't seen that for sale around here for years.

The occasional "emergency" or "party-hard" redbull.

Other than that, the 15oz canned Starbucks "doubleshot energy" coffee happens usually once a week.

Seems like we could just buy  THIS <http://purebulk.com/caffeine-powder-synthetic/>

seems ridiculously cheap,  250 gram would last you an entire YEAR.. it's $10.00

and make our own power thirsts..

A Red Bull or Rockstar Fruit Punch when I know it'll be an over 12hr work shift. I tried a Piña colada Rockstar recently and it wasn't bad.

Gone are the nights of half a pack of American Spirits and 2 Red Bulls to get through a last minute 12 page paper during under grad.

I need to get another pallet thing of nos soon :P

Seriously though I rarely watch commercials or see are for anything.

The monster drink I posted in the OP is the only monster product I've had.

I have had the sugarfree flavored red bull it's not so bad but regular red bull was awful.

Ok..

Buy..   THIS http://www.powdercity.com/products/caffeine-citrate

I'm not sure of the First link, it doesn't say what form the caffeine is in.. so I don't know if it dissovles well..

this link should be a "salt"

So.. you can Predissolve it into some water bottles, and keep it in the fridge,  minimizing accidental OD issue.

1000% agree. Sure sugar dose the trick but the comedown is tough compared to pure caffeine. Not to mention the impact on the teeth

Only energy drink I drink is redbull when I have Jägermeister or Mümmelmann

The problem with coffee is that I absolutely despise the taste of coffee. The only way I can drink it is **** like mochas or starbucks mocha frappuccinos, at which point it's worse than the energy drinks. :P

Diet energy drinks I sometimes actually consume, since most of them don't have Aspartame unlike awful Diet Sodas. Aspartame tastes nasty and has made me sick for longer than I've known it was 'bad' for you. My body just does not like it. I usually get non-diet, though, because screw it.

I don't drink them much anyway, anymore. 1-2 times a month now when I go to San Francisco to see my aunt to wake me up in the morning and keep me conscious long enough to get home. When I was working at a call center, though, it was like one or two a day. :P

Red Bull is nasty. Any of those local aren't-we-cool things with Stevia are nasty, Stevia is absolutely vile.

My preferred poison has always been NOS, although I wish they hadn't reduced the caffeine. :P Also annoying are those crappy Cherry and Citrus flavors that have made the GOOD flavors grape and fruit punch hard to find - Apparently Fruit Punch only comes in the hard-to-find 22oz bottles now, and grape only in the cans, but nobody around me stocks either. -_- I usually get the regular.

Others I get since a lot of places near me don't even have original NOS:

Monster Ultra
Rockstar Punched
Rockstar Recovery

Don't like Red Bull.

I'm not a big energy drink drinker, but I do like the Cranberry and Tropical Red Bull on occasion. Other than that, I find them to be very unpleasant. Those white Monsters are super gross. I have a friend that drinks them like water, I don't know how he is still alive!

I have tried Monster, Red Bull, Mount Dew Kickstart and 5 hr energy.
Monster doesn't seem to work for me.
Red Bull kind of works. It doesn't have a great boost but also doesn't seem to have much negative effect.
Kickstart provides better boost than Red Bull but my heart felt uncomfortable after some hours. Maybe it was not the problem of Kickstart because at that time I was pushing myself really hard and was pretty physically unhealthy. But anyway I don't dare to try it again.
5 hr energy is the magic. It gives a very strong boost and also doesn't seem to have much side effects. But the boost is kind of too strong that makes me worried.
So that's my experience with energy drinks. Now, I try not to use them, but when I do I usually go with Red Bull.

I drink a lot of caffeine and honestly should tone it down. I don't really discriminate, I'll drink pretty much whatever is on sale (though diet/sugarfree is preferred) - Monster, Rock Star, Redbull, Shockwave (mehhhhh). I do discriminate when it comes to coffee and tea, I can't stand the taste of McDonalds coffee or old dried up teabags. It isn't necessarily caffeine, but I sometimes use a pre-workout supplement (Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy) instead of something with caffeine it and it makes me feel like the Hulk.

I usually have about 2 of the 16 oz Rockstar cans a day, but the 240 mg caffeine per can variety. Sometimes I switch brands, but it's usually a decent value.

Lately I've been making a liter of cold brew coffee each day and letting it brew for 14+ hours. It's so dark that you can't shine a light through it. That stuff is strong.
