Title: Unicomp Model M, $50 shipped
Post by: nubbinator on Tue, 24 March 2015, 20:04:58
I'm not a huge fan of Model Ms, but it's not a bad price for one.

Unusual key caps and a much more attractive logo than Unicomp's own!

Not a bad price, just for those interesting caps.

It looks like a PC Terminal Emulator keyboard.  Pretty nice actually.  Maybe AS/400 or RS/6000.
Very cool.
Affirmative.

they have these at bed bath and beyond

careful: many are rubberdome. I'll have to check my pictures of the one I saw there to see.

If it's really BS I'll but it because i've been after an affirmative for a little while

edit: the 1010 and 1220 are RD, where the 1010T and 1220T are BS.

T being the crucial difference.

I'll take photos when it arrives of course. I've wanted these caps for a while.

KB arrived well packed. There is some dirt but otherwise no signs of use. No broken rivets. No dust. One key sticks a little but that's pretty common for stabilized model M keys.

I'm glad I got it. Unicomp value is really all over the place but all the medical / POS stuff from the late 1990's have been great. The way they have attached the controller to the KB plate is really overkill and derived from the terminal Ms (bolted to the plate instead of slotting into the case).

That with the cool keycaps make this an excellent buy for me, very glad I got it.

How funny... I got one too (http://www.ebay.com/itm/281645343618). The very same board, listed by a different seller two days later. (Maybe different members of a family are selling them?)

I couldn't resist the custom caps. I've also felt badly about returning my Ultra Classic to Unicomp few months ago because of the crappy printing. This seemed like a good way to have one with legends that are not only decent, but unusually interesting.  :?)

wow yours is in even better shape even than mine, total steal for $40.

Not all the keys on mine are perfect. I think I will replace the right shift key as it's sticking and printed a little fuzzily.
