AT&T u-verse is useless.... I'm slowly convincing the parents that we don't need cable so we can finally switch to fiber... Mom likes TV though... We also have a netflix account, I'm the only one who uses it at this point...
Speaking of fiber... Anyone know a nice isp that offers nice speeds.... 500+ without breaking the bank?

^Supposed to be 30ms/17mbps/1mbps still peasant speeds but better than this...

they def have local GBe for $50/month in florida, my buddy had it..
-
AT&T has Gbe?
-
AT&T has Gbe?
not att..
but there are local providers for wired isp
Oh you mean wireless carrier? yea hell no.. now that they got this net neutrality to deal with, they're sucking their customers dry.
-
Do you by chance know the names of the providers?
-
Have you looked into charter Internet service? A friend of mine has it, $30 for 15mbps
Not sure if it's available in your location but it's worth a shot

I'll be nagging the parents to get rid of this garbage... Though, I don't know that they'll want to since it's not a big name like Verizon or AT&T... We'll see.
Also curious about their customer service and reliability of the internet.

I'll get in touch with my friend tmr and get back to you about it. He used to have Verizon then switched to charter and he's liking it so far. I'll ask him about their customer service and reliability for ya :thumb:

THe provider in Florida is " Dais " it was $50 for 1Gbit up 1Gbit down

So I got in touch with my friend about Charter and he basically said they're all the same. The customer service is basically just like Verizon except it's easier to get in touch with an actual employee.
Regarding reliability, it's also pretty much the same LoL. He rarely gets downtime and just like all the other ISPs, they will throttle your connection during traffic hours unless you use a VPN, and really it's just like all the other ISPs. The main selling point for charter is simply the fact that it is cheap, and will stay cheap even after the 12months or 24months, the price doesn't skyrocket after the promotional period. So yeah, it's a solid choice for saving money, and that's probably a strong selling point if you're trying to convince your parents. :thumb:

Where in Fl? I'm in Orlando, brighthouse has exclusive contract for providing telecom to many homes. ATT leases their lines and marks it up to offer what appears to be a larger area of coverage. FIOS is available in some newer areas, esp near Tampa but there are state/county laws about only have 1 telecom provider per area to encourage investment and buildout. So you will most likely run into that wherever you are.
PM me if you want help.

I'm in Miami, Fios does look promising though... I just need to ask the parents when the AT&T contract is up, should be soon.
