Title: Where is a good place to buy a CM QFR?
Post by: Lazerxzz on Wed, 25 March 2015, 11:55:04
Newegg and amazon are out of stock unless I pay $30 more and the only ones in-stock are brown /blue switches and I want reds. I tried bestbuy but they only have the older model.

I'm always surprised when TP posts out of off topic. :)

I believe CM has been having some supply issues of late. They seem to be out of stock almost everywhere.

It's primarily because there hasn't actually been ANY innovation in mech key since the Ergodox..

And since we've determined that most people arn't actually ready for the Egdx, I've temporarily suspended the-Crusade..

As far as information regarding all the other stuff here,  it's just rehashes upon rehashes..

Not much to talk about..

Are we sure CM hasn't discontinued the QFR?

They very well may have in favor of the QFR-i. I'm not too up on the latest CM offerings, so you are probably right.

They're probably thinking.. putting the bottom line so low makes their other stuff a tough sell..

It's like when AMD came out with the HD 48xx series,  the $300 HD 4870 card bested nvidia's $500 monster..

Over night, price crash.

In the realm of Mech key..  You're not realllly getting that much more for your money beyond the QFR..

It seems the stock of mechanical keyboards are quite unstable.

Why not get the QFR-i? At least that has a standard bottom row. Hell, why not get any TKL with a standard bottom row....

Then I would suggest bookmarking an eBay search (they come up there occasionally), the classified section here, and /r/mechmarket on reddit.

I would encourage you to look around for something more standard then settle for the K65. Obviously you can do whatever you want, and perhaps that bottom row doesn't bother you, but it does limit your options going forward. There are options out there that will come in under $100, though you might have to compromise on using clone switches, such as Kailhs. Or as saturnotaku mentioned, look in the Classifieds or check eBay. That non-standard bottom row really sucks, in my opinion.

A fine choice, but no stock, according to the link.

Are you in Canada, by chance?

I saw a bunch of them at Canada Computers the other day in Ottawa. Might be able to get them from there. (keep in mind the Canadian dollar is pretty weak right now so if you're buying from the US it might work out pretty inexpensive).

There are also a few TKL boards available through Massdrop right now. I know it isn't everyone's favorite place, but $65 for a Keycool 87 is pretty good.
