I am in the process of attempting to find a new pair of shoes. I am having to finally go away from Vans due to them not making anything in the "fat pill" style anymore. Everything I can find on their site is the thin low profile Converse All Star type. I just don't like the look, feel, and they are very uncomfortable for me. I have slightly wide feet, shoes that are cut slightly narrow, I either need a half size larger than normal, or a wide, depending on the brand/shoe. With the padded tongue thick, style, I can just grab a 9.5 and not worry about it. So, I am on the lookout for a new shoe.
I really want to stay with the fat, padded, pill type "skate" shoe. I put that in quotes, because apparently that style isn't popular for actual skating due to lack of "board feel". Please don't crucify me if I am wrong here, just what I am seeing form 15 minutes worth of interwebs surfing.
So I have it down to 4 shoes I think.
Etnies Kingpin (http://etnies.com/shop/kingpin-6/black-black/)
DC Net (http://www.dcshoes.com/net-302361.html?dwvar_302361_color=3bk#cgid=men_shoes_classic&start=44&hitcount=106)
DC Court Graffik (http://www.dcshoes.com/court-graffik-300529.html?dwvar_300529_color=3bk#cgid=men_shoes_classic&start=28&hitcount=106)
DVS Argon (https://www.dvsshoes.com/shop/action/argon/black-nubuck/)
I guess my biggest question is which of these would tend to be cut the widest, so I can just grab a 9.5 and be done with it.
Edit: Adding this shoe to the mix. Osiris Relic (http://www.osirisshoes.com/shop/categories/mens/shoes/lifestyle/relic/)

Not a fan of the format on reddit.
Plus, there is a shoe thread here, just not sure I want to necro it with this question. When I get my next shoes, I will post there though.

I Joke!
Honestly, i checked out your links, i have not the experience with those shoes to really comment, i prefer a different style altogether.
My last acquisition in the shoe department was an Onitsiku Tiger : Mexico 66

Cat work boots don't stand a chance at my job, I wear Carolina, 100% US made with 100% US sourced materials with metatarsals. But I don't need work boots, those are easy to find. I just need some everyday shoes.

For the buckling spring man, they are everyday shoes ;)
Honestly, i used have a pair of Vans for pure comfort they were not up there compared to etnies i had had int he past, or the Merrals after. The Tigers i have now are my second pair from them and both have surprised me how comfortable they are for the short of shoe they look like.

I'm qualified to talk about what a colossal PITA it is to shop for shoes when you don't have "standard"-sized feet. I wore the same style New Balance shoe for over 10 years. Each pair I bought fit perfectly and they all fit the same; until the last pair I bought. So, I found a store that carried New Balance shoes in wide sizes. They didn't have my preferred shoe but I wanted to see how the shoes fit. I tried on 10 pairs of the same style and same size of shoe. Every single pair did not fit and every pair fit differently. I later found out that New Balance stopped manufacturing in the US and sourced their shoes from China.
Cottonsox is right, though. You should find another site to get information from. You're not likely to get a decent sample size of anecdotes from GeekHack on how these shoes fit. I can't think of any sites off the top of my head because I haven't shopped for shoes in years. But, when I last shopped for shoes, I spent weeks researching specific brands and styles of shoes before I found one that was acceptable. I dread having to go through the process again.

you wouldn't wear skate shoes, unless you were skating, the bottom is too hard, and not good for walking, or running away from evil-doers..
Most sneakers break-in and widen quite a bit, so even if they're tight initially at the store, they may become just right after they're worn for a while
so look at the stitching and material and determine if it's the type that will soften-sideways..

I have tried a couple times when I was in the Navy. Nothing fit right. My shoes have never given me issues since I went to a skate type shoe. Plus I don't like the look of other shoes.
