Title: Anyone read Xian Xia???
Post by: Sygaldry on Fri, 27 March 2015, 18:10:10
I'm a huge manga/light-novel/fantasy fan but recently I've been obsessed with Xian Xia novels (they're kind of a fantasy take on Wu Xia novels)...

Anyone else familiar with or otherwise engrossed by these stories???

Information on Xian Xia:

Hmmm!
 :-\

I don't see Taoism the way most people do. All that supernatural stuff is anti-Taoist, not Taoist. Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi would have laughed at these fantasies.

The Tao is the way (of nature, of things, etc). Good Taoists should be scientific and good observers. Taoism is rooted in ancient Asian wisdom/ culture that is handed down from one's ancestors, such as observing that certain roots have medicinal properties, certain faces reflect hormonal influences that make one more aggressive or more dishonest, certain geographical features are more likely to be unhealthy if you build your house there, etc.

This makes me really Xian (厌)[it's a pun for those who don't get it] You want some real fantasy, consider the case of a Jewish Zombie who was his own father that claims you can attain immortality if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

LOL..

I interpret that segment of the bible as thus..

There is no reliable way to explain agency.. Be it thousands of years ago, OR today

Without agency, there is no realistically believable way to put a PRIORITY on making decisions, the ones that "seems" to help humanity survive..

So, They've created this imaginary placeholder and said, that's GOD, he has free will, and because he has it, and "gave it" to us..  We are responsible for decisions.

In doing so.. They've Focused Humanity to serve itself..

And overall it's been a good thing to "believe" in the possibility of choice.. and today it still carries most of us through life..

That is,   until recently where we've completely and Cheaply saturated the wants and needs of billions of people with low cost forms of "happiness" manufactured.

So now,   what has been the guiding light of all the world,  "the american dream" is no longer all that relevant..

You don't need a home, a family, a job,  "IF" your only goal was to be HAPPY..

Here's a burger, 200 calories for, $1.00
Here's some Vidya,  you're happy
Here's some Pr0n,  you're happy
Here's 1 Liter of Vodka for $10, you're happy
Here's some Cannabis, you're happy
Here's some Heroin, you're SUPER happy

All of these things can be and is being progressively utilized to such a degree, that our rewards system can no longer COPE with just so god damn happy it is all the time..

SO what happens..   we desensitize to base levels of happiness, and chase after ever more without ever stepping back to consider that there is an establish, insurmountable Physical limit to this emotional pursuit..   Happiness is a chemical process with limited precursors produced by the limbic system.

There is an upper threshold on happiness,  but the current Monetary system does not account for this, it merely assumes everyone can become indefinitely Richer and More happy.. "THIS IS NOT THE CASE"..

That is why there is monetary inflation,  because the system of accounting is bad..  Humanity has not grown, just because the accounting says so..

But overall..  Humanity is heading in the right direction....   I'm happy with the way things are going.. (http://textemoticons.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/014.gif)
