---As for men, Shin and his colleagues guessed that biological differences between the genders, like the effect of sex hormones and metabolism, might account for the lack of an apparent association among males between eating instant noodles and developing metabolic syndrome.---

Hmm while I don't disagree with the content of that article, the topic can be wildly misleading - it's talking about instant noodles, not ramen in general... I'm pretty sure the ramen I make myself is no more unhealthy than Italian spaghetti or any other sort of flour-water mix... Since when did ramen = instant noodles? They are wildly different things...

The percentage of people eating "instant ramen" vs people eating "Diy ramen".. makes even the cursory comparison pointless..
My point is.. there's maybe the 1 dude out of 10,000,000 making his own noodles all the time..
It's impossible to offset the staggering amount of people who consume instant, to conceivably say the diy-style is relevant.. IT IS NOT..
THAT is why we can confidently use the term RAMEN for Instant ramen..

Fun fact: food loaded with preservatives is always going to be worse for you. Also, water is wet.
-
How about restaurant ramens then? Quite common in Asia and is not that flimsy thin processed kind...

My point was the fact that the term ramen has become synonymous with instant noodles in America, that was the part I disagreed with, not the healthiness of instant noodles per se.
-
So basically it starts off by mentioning some observational study (could be useless data for all we know as there were many variables), then states instant noodles contain TBHQ, found in many processed foods, as well as high sodium, saturated fat, and glycemic loads. Then notes that one Asian manufacturer produced noodles containing Benzopyrene (cancer-causing, according to the article), some of which were recalled in 2012.
The TBHQ is the only thing worth taking out of the piece to me. Seems like a crappy thing to be using for processed foods. A list in one of the linked articles of food that contains it:
Mcdonalds chicken nuggets and french fries
CHEEZ-IT Crackers made by Kelloggs
Butterfinger chocolate and Resee’s Peanut butter cups
Nestle Crunch
Wheat Thins
Microwave popcorn
Pam cooking spray
Aldi products [way too broad an item]
Keebler Club crackers
Kellogs eggo frozen waffles and many other kellog products
Taco bell beans and some taco shells
Teddy Grahams
Red Barron frozen pizza
Keebler Cookies
TastyKake
Little Debbie
Kellog’s Pop-Tarts
Homestyle Peanut butter cookies
Some forms of soymilk
Different breads cerals and crackers could contain TBHQ
Crisco oil
Some pet foods
Many cosmetic products and baby products
Some hair dyes lipsticks and eyeshadows
Wrigley’s gum
Little Debbies nutty bars and some M&M products
KFC beans and fried chicken

Language is in Motion... ebb and flow....
We could say.. the definition of Ramen in Modern American English equates to instant-ramen.
WHEREAS in asia.. if we use the term 拉麺.. it is technically any wheat noodle made from salted dough.
-
Yeah... It's a shame, Americans should also enjoy the wonders of hand pulled noodles in an amazingly tasting soup instead of that c*** those companies call ramen ^_^
-
It's fine guys.
The trend now is to come come home from work, not go out and have catered food from a startup come to us :p
This will save us from the teepee diet.

Welp it looks like I'm ****ed, the amount of Ramen I go through is stupid. I swear if easy mac, dominos, zebra cakes, and pop tarts are bad for you then I probably only have a week left.

I'm pretty sure the ramen I make myself is no more unhealthy than Italian spaghetti or any other sort of flour-water mix...
Yeah, all of them are equally terrible for you. Pure carbohydrate with no other nutrients. “Empty” calories.
