possibly rubber dome: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=6699&highlight=RS-6700
but cheap source of nice looking keys. do these cherry boards generally have decent keys? (ie, thick plastic and/or double shot or dye sub?) (ripster?)

Funny, the pic of the back of the keyboard has a readable view of the label, but the closeup shot of the label itself is so blurry it's not readable at all.

It sez in the GH wiki (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Dating+Cherry+keyboards) that this is indeed a rubber dome board. That page goes on to say (not entirely clearly) that G83 caps might work on a G81 (MY switch) but not G80 (MX switch) board.
I believe the "L" in the model number's "LPAUS" means the key caps are laser-etched. The wiki page that describes the model numbers (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Cherry+switches+and+boards) in detail is more specific about the G80 and G81 boards than the G83's.

good point, cherry's rubber dome keys might not fit cherry's mechanical keys...

Other thing that is puzzling is why they make them so squat. .
this was actually a problem on the 11800 cherry brown board I had, where if you slide your fingers fast between the rows, you could sometimes "catch" your fingertip on the bottom of a key. It was quite annoying.

I'd be interested if someone modded it to be a stand-alone card reader to stick beside your favourite board.
