Did you learn that slapping the computer chassis from the outside doesn't make it work m0re betters.. ?

But it does?

we had a computer in college that responded very well to slapping the chassis. you could hear the hd starting to spin down and if you didn't whack the **** out of it, the thing would lock up and you could kiss your work goodbye (this was pre-autosave and document recovery days).

As soon as I built my own. Didn't fancy risking breaking 1800 pounds of electronics.

I also realized that unloading my rounds on the monitor doesn't actually save the world.

I still slap my case fans when they decide to rattle, and it does work.
-
Just noctua.
-
Tried them too. I've yet to find a case fan that doesn't start to rattle when placed horizontally. At this point I've probably tried about 7-10 different brands and all develop a rattle after about a week or two.

Noctua uses a much better driver-chip than other fans which either "whine" or "click" @ low rpm..
That's truly their only advantage.. all that other "aerodynamic" stuff they advertise, I feel is pure bull****..

Really?
Noctua rattles for you?
Hrrrrmmm.... all of them, or just 1.. which way did you put it.. air blowing down or air blowing up

As a child, the television wrapped in wood grain coloured laminate responded positively to slapping. literately it would be an as**** and you would give it a hard slap and the picture would come back. This worked for some other devices also but I cannot exactly remember which ones. I am not old either, still in 20s, mid 20s. How technology changes I don't even go near my flat screen let alone slap it.

I remember my old crt had a cracked pcb.. that when you hit the tv, it'd connect back up. .hahahah

Yup, bought a pair of r8-1800's for the top of my case (blowing up/out) and both started to rattle by week 2. I later installed them vertically hoping I could still use them but the rattle was permanent no matter how I set them up. It only stops if I press my finger down hard in the middle, and only if you hold it there. Same deal with Cougar, a bunch of Cooler Master Models, and the couple Scythe fans I've tried. All rattle like a spoon in a garbage disposal.

I think you just need to oil them..
because they might sit on the shelf for a long time.

It was probably a similar issue with all that older stuff, bad connections jolted back into place.

are you sure your case is flat?
i wonder if one corner is 'lower' than the others (according to gravity, not the floor)

But it makes you feel better, and thus less bothered that the computer is not working better, hence giving the appearance that it is working better.
