Title: What do people like on Linear switches?

Especially if the switches are lubed and stickered. The 62g MX blacks that have been so modified on my B.87 feel every bit as good, and not much heavier, than the stock browns on my WASD CODE.

That's pretty much it. Even sometimes I enjoy feeling switches with some friction.

I think some people see it as a good point. But I am like you and think it's a bad point.

Post by: WolfTickets on Mon, 20 April 2015, 11:20:57: Mix it up. I put linear switches on the keys I'm more likely to hold down. I've got a black on my spacebar and reds on the shift, ctrl, alt, and fn keys. Blues for letter switches. No ragrets.

Post by: mashby on Mon, 20 April 2015, 15:39:14: I started out with Clicky switches, but found I needed something quieter. Tactile switches feel a bit scratchy to me and was surprised how much I've grown to love the MX-Black.

However, I do mix it up whenever I can.

Apart from Topres, I found all tactile switches to feel gimmicky. Linear switches just felt right - buttery smooth and so nice to type on.

Topre and linear switches are my 2 favorite types of switches hands down.

Post by: chyros on Mon, 20 April 2015, 15:48:20: Does the noise maybe also play a part? Or rather, the lack of it? One of my linear boards has a quite pleasant, extremely soft typing sound. Usually I'm into the super loud clicky ones, the louder the better, but I can understand the appeal of a soft noise like that too :) .

I know Browns are just slightly better than bubonic plague around here, but I prefer them for all around use. Blues work for document writing, and I'd like to try some of the less common variants but I don't have the time, space or free cash at the moment.

This layout makes sense, that is, modifiers keys with linear switches and alphanumerical keys with tactile or clicky switches. Except that I see space as a letter (a blank letter). Therefore spacebar is an alphanumerical key which needs a tactile or clicky switch :) However, much depends on own habits. For me, with Cherry MX Blues I can type faster and with less typos, because I have the feedback if and when a switch was activated, or not. I gave MX Reds a try, but my typing error rate was that high, I simply can't stand it.

each switch type has it's own joys, I'm leaning towards tri-setups lately, rotating between clicky/tactile/linear, although the tactile's and linear's are pretty close too, I'm guessing red~brown and black~clear, the bump is more of a minor enhancement

the simplicity of linears is also soothing, especially after using other switches for some time, there is no fuss, just simple sliding, it's not possible for me to settle on linears tho, after a while a small spark starts, grows and turns into a lust for clicks/bumps, especially clicks, after some time on linears, the clicks become the soothing ones

Post by: Skechup on Tue, 21 April 2015, 12:27:58: Reds are linear and therefore have no tactile bump. They are also really smooth when pressed. I personally don't like Reds because I don't really like keys which don't have tactile bumps, which means I like Browns, Blues and Buckling Springs.
