Title: Most enjoyable for typing: board with stock mx clears, or Unicomp Spacesaver M?
Post by: macguy80 on Tue, 21 April 2015, 01:45:20
Hi,

I know it's quite subjective, but which of these two is more enjoyable for pure typing? I don't game often.

I found mx blacks way too stiff.

I've used IBM buckling spring boards years ago with no problem, although they are supposedly "stiff" as well.

I can't help but be curious about clears, though -- but would I regret it, based on my experience with blacks?

I absolutely love my Clears.

However, I'm really, really itching to get an ultra classic, as my fingers are now used to the stiff springs of the Clears.

Can't speak to M, but I've got a board with stock Clears and an F, and I haven't used my Clears since I got my F.

I recommend the Buckling Springs over Clears because they just feel nicer. Buckling Springs are also more satisfying.

@Nai_Calus,

I would agree with you on a Model F, but since I am on a Mac, it would be hard to get all the modifiers I need on only 83 keys. And I'd have to get a few adapters to connect it to USB :)

It really is a shame they didn't use the exact same technology when they created the Model M.

I like every single one of my Model M keyboards.  I'm kinda biased that way, however.

ALPS are for typing.  Cherry are for gaming and doorbells.

If you're a typist, you should be looking at ALPS and Buckling Spring.

Pfft, AT isn't the only layout. USB-converted F107? ;) Expensive though rofl.

I use my ergo Clears at work stI'll, but if you want BS, a Model F is the way to go.

And remember, OP is talking Unicomp Model M, so it's not a great example of a Model M.

Entirely subjective claim contingent upon taste.  Yes, gaming isn't recommended on BS due to rollover issues, but Topre, MX, Alps, etc for typing and gaming all depends on taste.  For example, I can't stand MX Red, MX Browns, Realforce Topre, or modern Alps, but others swear by those.
