Title: Open/Re-assemble an Alps switch
Post by: wellington1869 on Fri, 11 September 2009, 21:32:02
How to Open/Re-assemble an alps switch.

(If you're looking for how to take the keycap off, see here (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:7018))

Opening an alps switch: This method uses 2 precision screwdrivers. See the link below the video for the "splinter forceps" method which is faster but requires more specialized tools.

See here for high resolution photographs of the exact same procedure: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:4901

Reassemble an alps switch: This video is for people who have trouble putting an alps switch back together. Picture is slightly blurry at times but it should give folks a good idea of whats involved.

Alternately: Use a magnet above the casing, as noted in the alps wiki (http://"http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=ALPS+switches#FAQs):

When reassemble I lean a board upside down to avoid spring from falling.
