Title: Filco and Cherry keycaps compatibility
Post by: spremino on Sat, 12 September 2009, 06:30:44
In a old post by Ripster, he told us about his experience transplanting keycaps from a Cherry keyboard to a Filco with Cherry switches.

I wonder whether Cherry keycaps have same profile as Filco's. He did that because Cherry's were double shotted, whilst I'm more interested in key feel (durability and more "coarse" surface"), and I wonder whether all mechanical Cherry keyboards share same keycaps quality (double shotted or not).

Any hints? Thanks.

Only few Cherry keycaps are two-shot moulded, so you'll need patience and luck finding any. Plastics seem to be identical, though, so you'll get POM or PBT depending on keycap colour.
Filco's keys are taller than Cherry's, so I wouldn't recommend replacing single keys in the alphanumeric area. Replacing everything except shift, return, etc. shouldn't be much of a problem, though, as this doesn't feel extremely weird when typing.
