Title: Wireless AC
Post by: tp4tissue on Tue, 28 April 2015, 15:01:46
So.....

Anyone know when we're gonna get that Mythical 7Gbps ?

Currently,  Fastest router is labeled for 1300Mbps for the 5ghz-band, on the box.

The ac1900 routers. 1300Mbps, 5ghz, + 600Mbps, 2.4ghz = 1900 (their math, not mine)

However,  we're only getting ~300Mbps @ 5 feet, and ~130Mbps @ 20 feet

My N router gets 80Mbps @ 20 feet..  so it'd be stupid to spend $150+3*$30=$240 for 50Mbps more on my 3 laptops.

I ask cuz I returned my original R7000 a while back after being disappointed, but recently helped a buddy setup his AC68, and basically got the exact same disappointment.

Of course I didn't tell him that. haha

Yeah and even if the protocol is there the router itself has to be able to give enough throughput. I even discovered this can be a problem for LAN, where the router isn't good enough to give all the proper throughput that LAN provides. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/view see: WAN to LAN throughput

Hrrrmmm.....

Good thing I'm too poor for the wan-lan throughput of my router.
