Title: Making higher rez avatars on here...
Post by: 00zeRO on Tue, 28 April 2015, 16:42:19
Is there a decent website that can take my jpeg and resize it so that it doesn't look so blurry when I link to it and make it my avatar?

on a serious note, gh reduces the quality of avatars and such to lessen the load of data and stuff (if i have heard correctly)

This idea would suck for mobile users.

Well we already have a bunch of retarded gifs floating around.

All I am looking to do is make a jpeg look like a jpeg, not some copy of a png-turned-into-gif blob of nonsense...

Well we already have a bunch of retarded gifs floating around.

Oh so now you don't like gifs?

Our moderation team really likes to go after these relatively, stupid inconsequential and meaningless things instead of doing actual moderation.

Even profiles aren't properly regulated.

You can't have gifs that lag mobile browsers.

Or do you just like complaining?

Is there a decent website that can take my jpeg and resize it so that it doesn't look so blurry when I link to it and make it my avatar?

If the issue is that the source is too large, I'd recommend simply downloading, resizing, and uploading as your avatar.  The dimensions are 150x150.

is there an option to turn off other people's avatars?

Modify Profile -> Look and Layout -> Don't show users' avatars

I resize in imgur, but it always looks blurry on here when I use the link...

Try saving it as .png, it should help avoid compression on the forum.

Was going to suggest this, when I uploaded my avatar as a .jpg to try and help the forum load it got compressed to ****, changed it to a png and its crystal clear

compare my avatar to this:

as you can see it compressed even the .png making it fuzzy...

It's because it is 153 pixels wide, GH only supports up to 150 so it's resizing it.

ah...I could have sworn I had shorn it down to 150, but I guess I didn't save...

I wouldn't be complaining and having to point these out if you guys simply exercised more common sense and consistency and less discretionary moderation.

Good advice, but I'd rather use private healthcare and keep my teeth if it's all the same to you.

FWIW, most dental practises in the UK are privatised... But it seems like a good day for negative British stereotypes today ;)

Not much apparently, because most of your actors and tv hosts still have noticeably terrible teeth.
I'd apologize for being American but that's inherently unamerican so I will say you can call me a fat yankee **** if that makes you feel better :D

You're definitely right, I had to edit my post too because I realized I just apologized for being American and then I would take flak from other pundits.
Oh also! COOL I KNOW WHO ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE.

And dem graphical interface doohickys taxed my gpu. Therefore battery dies.
I carry a 8200mah battery pack in my bag everyday now.
