Title: [eu] Compaq/Cherry MX11800
Post by: bsvP585hUO2Y6 on Mon, 14 September 2009, 03:50:30
Hi,

I just stumbled across this auction of MX11800s[1]. The price is rather
steep, but the auction includes a 19" tray, the MX11800's native
habitat.

Side note: Interesting to see how many variants of the MX11800 are out
there. This one has bars on the F/J keys and grey plugs. So there have
to be at least three variants total, since I've also seen some with F/J
center nipples + grey plugs and F/J bars + colored plugs. Maybe someone
has seen additional variations?

regards,
andreas

It seems the MX 11800 is a bit sparse right now, normally they can be had from just £10 (or lower if you can make a bargain) as well as up to £50.
Shipping cost will probably be higher as well, seeing how the frame adds extra weight.

In the end, I'd consider waiting for a cheaper one to turn up in the UK or Germany. Or you could buy a Filco with brown cherries and a US layout from KeyboardCo (http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=623). After all, the Compaq uses a rather unconventional layout; the position of the arrow cluster and home/ins/del keys makes programming difficult.
