Really nice instant messaging software with heaps of plugins for integration, we've moved off Skype at work for 90% of stuff now and I couldn't be happier. Was thinking it could be cool to set up a channel for geekhack users to hang out, probably still a lot of people using irc though I guess.

It might be good for intranet..
but for talking to other people, skype is the go to, since most people already have it set up..
It does use 150mb of ram for some nefarious NSA reason.

Tp going to make this a TP thread soon :p

Actually we use it to chat between our offices in Australia and the US all the time, much more powerful than Skype with all the integrations set up. Set up a few channels for each project we have running and then add in github tracking and it's really useful for tracking everyone's progress.

But how well does it handle the NSA sn00ping..
Maybe a teamspeak server over vpn is better.?

Isn't there going to be changes made to the privacy laws and what NSA can do?

Yes, one of my workplaces just converted to Slack last month. Seems really smooth so far.

I've dabbled with it. I've been meaning to look into self hosted versions. It's pretty much replaced IRC which was our primary medium for a while. It is essentially what Google Wave should have been.
