First printers, now gardening. You seem to have a lot of daily problems.

I've only ever done indoor gardening and that's just semi-expensive to setup, not to maintain.

Gardening is inexpensive compared to keyboards. For a hundred bucks that's a ton of gardening stuff, even new. Or you can rummage through estate sales and grab bags of fertilizer, seed, pots, trowels, miracle grow, and whatever else for close to nothing. Literally. I grabbed a brand new bottle of $10 poison ivy killer for $0.50. Mulch is inexpensive at $3 a bag and that only needs to be added onto every year. Throw in some hardy plants and really all you have to do is trim every once and awhile.

The biggest pain is so damned aphids and the rose bush. Those bastards just don't give up.

The idea is to get plants that are adapted to the climate where you live. So local plants. You can buy all these exotic plants you see, you will have to spend a lot of time and efforts to maintain them. If you buy plants that grow naturally where you live, they are going to maintain themselves and the effort will be minimal. So your best bet is to find local plants that look great and fit in your setup.

So I gotta buy this damn fungicide for my apple tree,  $30.. that cost more than the tree (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/th_093.gif)

That's an inexpensive tree. Getting trees can be rightfully expensive.
