Title: Does Anyone do Full-size Custom Lefty Keyboards?
Post by: KaminKevCrew on Thu, 14 May 2015, 13:05:15
The title *sort* of says it all. When I say lefty, I don't mean having the letters' layout changing, that's easy enough to do in software, and some keyboards have dip switched for that, if I'm not mistaken. When I say lefty, I mean the numpad being on the left side of the board. Would I just need to get a separate number pad, and place it on my desk next to the keyboard? I'd prefer to have it all in one, if anyone makes those
Thanks!

Welcome to geekhack! The keyboard your seeking for definitely exist. Just google left handed keyboard and you should be able to find what you need. You could always created your own PCB( don't really know how but a few member on here do it all the time). Ask around for more info peeps here are super friendly.

Seijin is the only one I know of that does it with mechanical switches, though not everyone likes the switches they use.  There also have been a couple of Korean boards that were done left handed in the middle of mostly right handed lots, but you'd be hard pressed to find one.

My recommendation would just be to get a tenkeyless or 60% board and a numpad.  It's easier to find and gives you more options.

The winkeyless.kr EX boards (the ones with numpads) have spaces to cut, and solder pads to wire the numpad area anywhere.  You'd be on your own for a housing, unless contacting Hojin directly could result in a plate made to suit your needs.

But, yeah, unless you really like the idea of a special board, or really enjoy tinkering, a TKL + Numpad is likely the way to go.

There is a DSI keyboard which is mechanical and designed for lefty's.. search DSI Left-Handed Keyboard, its even on amazon and i think i see it on Newegg also . I always thought that DSI boards came with alps, but regarding this keyboard some sellers advertise them with Cherry MX Reds. so I'm not sure which switches really uses.

Best Regards
Gabriel

Not sure how much you're looking to spend but hopefully you were looking at getting a Korean custom.
Take a look at kailet's boards.

Left-handed mechanical keyboards are extremely rare.

Custom keyboards are slightly rare.

A combination of the two would be challenging to find.

Keyboard Co has one (non-custom) left-handed keyboard: http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/black-left-handed-keyboard-ps2-and-usb.asp

And one that I think is non-mechanical: http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard/black-left-handed-keypad-keyboard.asp

^^ this.  If you decouple the two, you get a vast array of keyboard choices and probably save a ton of money. Plus you get the benefit of being able to move the 10-key aside when you're not using it to keep your mouse close at hand.

I love 60% for that, especially if you get a tenkey that you can double as arrow keys.

I'm not a lefty but I use left hand on numpad. If you find a custom left hand board, please let me know too :)

man we left handed peoples really get screwed on this kinda of stuff..  It is so hard to find left handed stuff.

I personally got use to right hand mouse out of necessity (school/ work) but I sometimes have considered trying to switch over to left handed set up... but there isn't many options for left handed keyboards.

also OTOH.... I almost feel it is a competitive advantage to some extent in games .. as my dominate hand is one the keyboard and able to move optimally from various key presses to the next or whatnot.

anyways keep the faith my left handed brothers some day Righty is going to pay!!!!

22kbd winkeyless.kr have been mentioned already. DSI has one as well though it's ALPS IIRC. LZ had one LH Fullsize but it was very low production.

It would be quite simple to have a plate made and either direct-wire or make a PCB too.

LH people don't get screwed that abdly its very easy to use the tenkey for gaming. I'm learning to use a tenkey left handed as its quite useful as a right-handed person.

Its sort a 1 off but I believe the OG longcat KB was LH tenkey as well https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=43788.msg900573#msg900573
