For me this mainly applies at work, but I find myself washing my hands more frequently lately.
It started out as just making sure they were clean when typing, which around here (dirty environment) is somewhat difficult to manage and now seems to be a habit.
-
I already had a hand-washing OCD habit before keyboard whoring. Now I just worry that all my sanitizers and such will affect my caps.
I'll warn you: It is a slippery slope once you start hand-washing. Be careful you don't end up like me and do it 1,000 times a day. Worst part is that the more I wash, the more my hands get dry and cracked. Thus, I'm actually making myself more susceptible to germs by having open cuts. Still can't stop myself, though.

YES!~!~~!~!~!
I can't use my keyboard when my hands are even the slightest bit dirty or after I just ate or got out of the shower.
I need to wash my hands every single time I go to use my white 660C. huehuehue

in junior high, the guy that ran the computer lab made us line up outside the door and he'd inspect each student's hands before letting us in the lab. at first i almost thought it had to be a joke.
-
I now have a bottle of hand sanitizer on my desk, where before, I hadn't thought of the idea.
-
I keep a separate fap board if that's what you're asking.

BUT Is hand sanitizer bad for your keyboard? :o
-
HAHAHAHA
I think it's probably the other way around..
people who don't wash their hands enough, are probably not going to get into such a meticulous hobby as "computers"..
The computers hobby is almost exclusively the domain of the "slightly wrong" in the head crowd..
^^ to which excessive hand washing would be prevalent..

I make sure my hand are dry and the hand sanitizer, so I don't think it should, but theres always that risk :-\

I did have some hand-washing OCD when I was a kid, but I grew out of it.
I don't think I wash my hands more often since I got into keyboarding hobby, than before. Maybe I clean the keyboards I use more often though.
-
My keyboards are so dirty, I have to wash my hands after I use them.

This makes me feel depressed...And annoyed at the same time...

Technically you can NOT grow out of the OCD..
You just put it towards other things. Clean computer, room neatness. etc..

I already didn't like to have any sort of grease or some bs from food. Whether it be my phone, or xbox controller at the time. Keyboard has only made that more prominent.
-
When I first got into mech boards I cared and obsessed over hand clenliness, but now it's whatever and no ****s are given when I go from eating cheetos to typing. If I can't see it it's not dirty.
-
i wash my hands because people in the office close the door. eat fried chicken. grab the door. wash their hands in the washroom. then don't clean the doorknob.
why they bother closing the door everyday...i don't know.
-
Since its not super fun to clean keyboards and since I prefer them clean, its easy to take that extra step to just clean your hands before using the keyboard. Also hating sticky hands makes it even easier

Do you work at Popeyes ?
it's my favorite fried chicken place.

Not really - I tend to wash my hands fairly regularly anyway. Not to OCD levels though.
-
SpamRay do you work in a factory or something? I find it hard to reconcile a keyboard fan like you with a dirty environment. Because face it, within 2 years, any board you have will be gummed up by dust and debri. Have seen too many crappy vintage boards.

no, programmers. aka people who refuse to use utensils because it's slower than just hands. not just fried chicken lol.
popeyes is life.

It's that much slower to eat with utensils? I hadn't noticed.
Utensils 4 lyfe. I'm not getting my hands all greasy and handle my mouse / keyboard...

It's ok, all this is good information. Now we know who not to buy a secondhand keyboard from... no SpamRay, and no tbc... ^-^

I use hands for fried, chicken..
Rarely do I eat fried chicken in front of the PC..
But if I DID, i'd probably put down a double layer of plastic wrap atop my Egdx.

No, what I meant was my work environment causes my hands to get dirty not the keyboard. :P
-
in terms of OCD yes
-
I have unscented baby wipes right next to my happy hacking keyboard
-
A good keyboard makes me less likely to eat food over it, but increased hand washing? No way. A keyboard is a tool, not something for me to treat like a precious somethingorother.

Sort of agree but it depends which keyboard I have on rotation. If it’s MX with GMK Dolch, I washed my hands more often than if its the HHKB with the stock black caps. My orange blanks HHKB with CC and BBV2 - I make sure I sanitized my hands after cleaning them. If it’s the Vortex PBT caps, a little bit of grease is fine. I’ll just wipe the hands on the pants.
-
I hadn't considered it until reading this thread but I always wash my hands before I sit down to the computer at home. Looking at getting a second 60% to use at work because some of the keyboards I have to use I don't even want to be near.
-
Only with the super greasy nasty foods will I actually go and wash my hands before using my keyboard. I will typically wipe my hands down with a tea towel or napkin before hand
-
Heavily, I don't type on my keyboards without washing my hands beforehand.
Before getting mechs I never did that and even ate on top of the keyboard, not anymore.
