Title: How did this happen...
Post by: tp4tissue on Tue, 19 May 2015, 14:20:33
My 6570 htpc graphics card    degraded.

Used to hold 835mhz OC

Now it only holds 780..  that's 55mhz difference, HUGE... only 3 Years

It's never ran any 3D games,  only Madvr, ~60% load tops..

And it's not even overvolted...

Dust clogging the cooling fins perhaps? Or maybe the thermal paste has degraded. May be worth dismantling and repasting. Or it could just be fading with old age and long term heating...

definitely not dust or paste,

It won't hold the clock "at all".

I wouldn't have thought degradation would be this bad in such a short amount of time.

Finally fixed the problem..

It seems to be VRM-  wear

It began crashing even at 780mhz.

I put on some old Mosfet heasinks I had left over on the open air Vrms,  now it holds 790 without any issue..   still, no more 835.. (http://www.cute-factor.com/images/smilies/onion/7f5341cc.gif)
