I've been working on this set for a while which is based off of this (http://imgur.com/eKA22tQ.png?1) book cover, and now I'd like to check if anybody is interested in it and whether I should bother sending it to PMK/SP.
Here is a messy render of the set with a bunch of information. (http://imgur.com/kCdlTtv.png?1)
Here is a cleaner render of a 60% layout: (http://imgur.com/mew38H2.png?1)
Here is a new better render of a 60% layout: (http://imgur.com/BMuZfoV.png?1)
Here is a render of a 60% layout with a green/blue split: (http://imgur.com/2kxWlJm.png?1)
Here is a render with the keys required for a TKL: (http://imgur.com/UqnvgL1.png?1)
Here are some optional mods: (http://imgur.com/XexJ6g7.png?1)
Feel free to ask any question or make any recommendation as this is not set in stone.

The reason none of your images are loading is because you pasted an incomplete URL between the IMG tags. The forum software doesn't know how to parse them without an image file extension.
You'll want to edit in the .jpg or .png extension or switch to URL tags. Your first one should be http://i.imgur.com/kCdlTtv.png?1 not http://imgur.com/kCdlTtv

Alright thanks I'll fix that

No problem. :thumb:

This is pretty awesome. I'm personally not a huge fan of the Japanese keys. It's not a deal breaker by any means. It would be nice to have a child deal with extra English backspace keys and a few winkey options.
-
Is this going to be dye-subbed or did you get quotes on molds OP?
-
I really like the colors

Yeah sure I could just do english legends then have all the Japanese legends as a child deal.

Well I'm not sure if it could be dye subbed, I don't know the specifications of what is achievable with dye subbing. I am not sure exactly sure about what style of legends I will be using, as this is pretty much my first set, and I have a lot to learn.
-
This really looks like an good design, props for that :) the only thing I would change is eliminate the green, but that's personal opinion, maybe it looks better than I'm imagining ;)
-
wow, fantastic, bae.I love the JAVansese style :p :p :p :p
-
I've been wanting to buy an SA set for a while now...
This one is a big enough change that I'd be in 100%.
-
The blue legends look better than the green ones on the red keys.
It's a beautiful design.

Thanks! Next time I get to my desktop, I'll make a mockup of what that'd look like
-
Very interested =O
I'll keep myself updated
-
need this in my life
-
Nice!
-
love it!!
Hoping to see this GB run soon.

I second this, I really like the colours but not a fan of the japanese and windows key designs
-
Added two new renders which should be much better.
Also thanks for the support :-*
-
I'm loving what you have going on here. Is there any possibility of an ergodox set?
-
I could offer single blank 2u, 1.5u, and 1u keys, because i think that would have a higher chance to tip than a dedicated ergodox set
edit: Signature Plastics says that from now on, they will offer blank keycaps for every group buy, so you should be good
-
I'm actually a fan of this, not sure what kind of board would match it well but the style is very nice :thumb:
-
It's very nice, but quite similar to this one: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=71531.0
Maybe you guys could put your heads together and find a way to kinda consolidate the demand for both sets into one?

Hm I haven't seen that one before. I think our ideas are quite different though, because their mods are brighter, and overall it seems a bit more simple than mine.
-
bump
would be this in a heartbeat, show some love folks
-
Storing this one for now, will probably bring it back in a few months.
-
oh man.. if this set comes out.. for sure getting it esp in SA
-
Do you plan to have more extras kits?
I wouldn't buy this unless I could fit it on my Viper or something similar
-
Loving the color combinations. Will make this my first SA set if the gb happens soonsoon :thumb:
-
I'm definitely digging the set, in particular the color combinations. I'd buy this if I could find room in my budget!
-
Looks pretty sweet, not so sure about the font though
-
keep it up lads
-
Looks cool
-
I like this set. I'll be watching this thread for sure
-
Very nice set. I'd be interested if it got going on PMK.
-
i want a 3u space bar for my filco mini air :p
-

I agree. I would love to see something a little more thematic for the font.
Also voicing support for additional compatibility sets. This would probably end up on my Leopold FC660M.
-
I agree with changing the font maybe. Was also just thinking that this would look hella with a wood case. Hope I can see this IC make a comeback!

Since the plan was for it to be SA(although change is possible), the font would be the font that SP uses with all of their SA sets. Also, I have been working on a wooden poker case (with lots of wood options) on and off for the past while, but I have been a bit too lazy to make an IC or anything. Also, I don't think that I will bring this set back until either the Otaku Kiibodo set is done on Massdrop (either by failing, or becoming successful) or if enough people express interest.

Fair enough on both counts. I prefer this set to the Otaku Kiibodo set by a pretty wide margin. I've subscribed and will be in the GB if/when it happens.

great
i love SA ;D
-
Looks great. Any plans for an ISO/international kits?
-
I'm not really into SA profile anymore but this is a really pretty color scheme!
-
I'd be totally up for this GB. Looks stunning

I'll probably have a vote of dcs vs sa if I decide to run this.

The font SP uses (Gorton Modified) doesn't have an electronic version. It's a bit like Arial, Helvetica and Engraver's Gothic fonts, with different bits from each. The "G" from Arial, the "Q" from Engraver's Gothic, etc, but some characters are not like any of them ("*" for example).
I believe the Keyboard Layout Editor uses Engraver's Gothic for SA sets. You can see in particular the "&" character doesn't match, among others, and it doesn't allow you to make the text size as large as they actually appear on the real thing. Another flaw in KLE is the colour matching. It uses the correct colour for the base of the keycap, but the keytop is lightened, so the colours in the mockup appear lighter than they really are, but I see you've used actual scans of the colour ring samples, which should give a slightly better representation. I find these to be the most accurate, even though they're still not perfect (and NN is missing): http://deskthority.net/wiki/Signature_Plastics_ABS_colours
If you're planning on using fully sculptured SA profile, you should be aware that SP doesn't have Row 4 Shift moulds yet (we've been pushing them to make them) for the 2.25x and 2.75x Shift keys. All Row 3 SA profile is not affected by this issue, of course.
Anyway, I really like the colourway on this keyset, it reminds me of Penumbra (which is still my all-time favourite set) :)

interested in this....love the colors!

I agree, the two sets are quite different. I particularly like the lotus modifier from the other set, however your design and color choices are superior in every other way.
-
these are super pretty, i would be into this set!
-
definitely into it. would buy it. thumbs up for going with fully sculpted.
-
Congrats on a great looking mockup
One thing you should keep in mind especially with those Japanese characters is that the SP molds need at least 1.5mm (IIRC) of clearance in the lines and the spaces between so you might not be able to get those made
-
super cool!!!

Yup, you'll need to confirm the designs of the legends with Signature Plastics. They quote 0.020" as the "safe" minimum gap between lines and size of "islands", but they can go as small as 0.008" depending on certain factors. The best is to make sure you don't have any gaps smaller than about 0.010" then confirm with SP if the design is okay or needs modifying. If you want to make sure it's "safe", though, then go with at least 0.020" gaps and islands and stay within 0.38" vertical size and 0.06" of each horizontal edge. 2.25x and 2.75x caps you need to be further away from the horizontal edges due to the smaller support grid.

Holy crap. I am in love. I'll be in for a set absolutely.
-
Really into the colour scheme. Count me in.
-
Love the colors, I'd be in for a 60% set with mods.
-
Wow. These look great. I'm. A big fan of maroon.
-
Definitely interested with this colorway. Hopefully this comes to fruition.
-
I like the color scheme and the Jap style. The only thing I would change is maybe add more Jap characters.
-
Nice! I like your color choices. Look very nice with a dark wood case.
-
Nice design! I would totally be interested in getting this. Well thought out and put together.
-
Hmmm, I think that a more calligraphic looking text would be more appropriate for this drop, the text as is looks very plain and I think something a little more exotic would better mimic how you are styling this set.
-
So far im liking these alot. Going to be keeping a close watch on this one. :thumb:
-
I love this keyset, the style, color tone, novelty keys and every things.
However, for Chinese/Japanese people, the fonts of Chinese text keys was awful. Because this font is too modern and no soul, it's a meaningless font.
Based on your theme, I suggest you use this font, it called DFKai-SB/KaiU, in Chinese is 標楷體. It is a very traditional font which used from ancient, and more fit the theme's year.

I'd be interested in a set of these as well!
