My printer summary:
I am using an old clunker Epson Stylus Color 440, it has had some issues, but they were easily repairable.

What kind of printers are you guys using?

I am using a Samsung ML-1600. Its going on 4 years now and for the little printing I do works just fine. My wife likes to print out lots of docs though and I go through 2 cartridges a year.

My cheap HP Laserjet 2600N has started playing up, so I switched on my Epson Stylus Photo 1290 inkjet the other day. It's been powered off for nearly 3 years, and I was expecting the nozzles to be dried and clogged up beyond repair, but after two cleaning cycles it was perfect! Very impressive.

I tend to spend a little more money on printers than most because I want postscript built into the printer. My current printer is a Lexmark C544n 1200x1200dpi color laser printer. My previous printer was a Lexmark Optra R+ 1200x1200dpi laster printer that I had for about 10 years before I upgraded to color.

A3+ - Epson 1290, Epson R1800
A4   - Epson DX4050, Epson Stylus 895

All bar the 4050 use an Inkflow system, which makes the running costs much much cheaper, while retaining print quality (I sell photo's, both these points are paramount). They are also easy to service myself, (The 1290 was in bits last week, dust on the rollers, not pulling in paper. Patient is now stable).

I also have an A2 printer stashed away in the garage, but I've not used it in... ooh... 4 years now (Cleaned and purged prior to storage). I think it's a 2000 or 3000 series model.

Must get round to selling that.

Re-reading the thread.

@Ripster...  Inkflow system. you can score one fairly cheaply on the bay. much much cheaper to run.
@Rajagra... Good choice. I prefer this over the R1800. has been stripped and repaired many times, but keeps on ticking. Best of all, it cost me £10!

I use one of the original Canon Bubble Jet printers (the BJ-200ex model). At high quality, it'll print black and white at 360x360 DPI. At low quality, it'll print at 180x180 DPI. But I don't really print too many pictures, so it doesn't matter that much to me.

I even have the owners manual, which talks about how to change the font using the dip switches.

There are some nice things about this old printer though. Ink cartridges work with refill kits and new ones cost $10. It's also much smaller than any modern printer
