Title: GMK QMX-Clip
Post by: LXXXIX on Mon, 01 June 2015, 08:53:38
Apparently GMK is trying out some pretty cool new stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-hq_91BEX4at

Would anyone be interested in these? I know I would.

What do you all think?

Just FYI, there's been some discussion on this in this thread about GMK Uniqey (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=65741.150). I'm personally interested in anything new and weird so it'll be cool to see how this works. I'd love to get my hands on some samples.

You're fine, there's no worries. Just an FYI, not a "you're a bad thread maker". :)

I like o-rings for I disike clack and like shorter travel so I'm interested.  So am I getting this right, this dampens the clack but ALSO dampens the upclack? (which is what is new with this) and it's only works with pcb mount?

One day you will realize how superior linear switches are.

I was going to see if I couldn't get some of these to send out with Miami Nights if it goes through. Just a couple per order or something, just so they can be tried out.

I wanted these qmx-clip things to try out but it looks like they only work if there isnt a plate-mount.

This is a cool idea, hopefully GMK goes for it.

Can't wait for this. The down stroke and up stoke noise always bothers me.

But I can't figure out how they reduce the upstroke noise, in other words, what's the difference between this and landing pad.

Hope there will be a actually typing video for this.

It looks like its a plastic housing that clips onto the switch and has a rubber gasket attached to it that has a large enough hole for a round cap stem to fit through.  It looks like a much better solution than o-rings since it actually dampens at the point of contact of housing to housing instead of adding mushiness to the feel.  It seems like a more refined version of soft landing pads.

It should also be interesting to see how easy it is to mod the housing.

You are right, they only work on PCB mount without a plate

FYI

It only really seems to work for reds and blacks, for the other switch type it just kind of muffles the sound... interesting

Is a 60%without a plate any good?

does anybody know if these would work on the team wolf keyboards with the swappable switches?  it looks like the switch mount may be low enough to allow room, but maybe it's too close to plate mount anyway...

Doubt it would work.  The current massdrop page says it won't work with the Vortex Poker, which has the same mounting "height" as the team wolf board.  You'll need a true PCB-mount board for these clips.

bummer.  the only plate mount i've got at the moment is a numpad.  may get some anyway just to try them out, though.

Soooooo anybody have any idea what boards are/can be PCB mounted, besides customs and G80s?

Plum96 (it seems that only the older ones are pcb mounted)

Remember that there are two models, the g80-3000 and the g80-1800.
