Title: Tg3 Bl82 Keycap Removal issue?
Post by: shut up on Wed, 03 June 2015, 17:23:25
So I jumped the gun on a $28 NIB Tg3 Bl82 non backlight version.

It's arrived, and the first thing I tried to do is remove the keycaps to get that rubber membrane out of there, except problem. The first keycap I tried to remove pulled the rubber membrane up with it and I'd rather not damage anything at all. Anybody know what's going on with that? It does have the touchpad/rubber dome membrane.

The rubber membrane also makes the spacebar feel really strange, not sure how to explain it. It feels crunchy for some reason.

Pull all the caps off. Then the sheet comes off as a whole.

It's just a rubber sheet sitting over a bunch of MX Black switches. Which is why when you removed just *one* cap, it wouldn't move.

So what you're saying is that the rubber membrane should come up with all of the keycaps somewhat attached to it?

Because when I actually pulled the keycap off, the rubber membrane stretched with it and that did not feel right at all.

It's just press fit. Just remove all the keycaps. You're not going to hurt it. The sheet is press fit into the caps. No need to over think it.

Pull all the caps off and pull the sheet off. If the caps are stuck to the sheet then just keep the caps stuck to the sheet until you get all the caps free then pull it all off together.

Ok, I'll go ahead and give that a shot! Thanks for the suggestions.

Or unscrew the case. I think that's what I did on my non-touchpad BL82.
