Title: Windows key activation on an old model M
Post by: roaduck on Thu, 24 September 2009, 22:08:50: You lot will probably know this hack but I`ll say it just in case.
Personally I hate Micro$$$$ and anything out of Redmond and I have never used the Windoze bloatware key in over ten years but somebody might want the keyboard shortcut to access it.All you do is press the left Ctrl and Esc simultaneously and viola.Works on my 1391406.

Post by: pseudolobster on Sat, 26 September 2009, 17:59:24: Yes, Ctrl+Esc brings up the start menu, and Shift+F10 brings up the context menu, but neither can be used as modifier keys. For instance, Winkey+D is the "show desktop" command, or Winkey+E is a shortcut to explorer, yet you can't press Ctrl+Esc+D or Ctrl+Esc+E to get those functions. For that you'll need to actually remap a key you don't use to the windows key.

Post by: Hak Foo on Sun, 27 September 2009, 00:35:11: The PS/2 to USB adaptor I use (PI Industries Y-Mouse) will let you map various bottom row keys to make a PC keyboard more adaptable for a Mac or give you some Windows key functionality on a 1391401.

Of course, it's like $60.

It's surprising that there aren't more "passthrough translators" you can program macros and such into, and keep your favourite keyboard behind them.
